Despite working to make the most of the oval section and run in tandem with team cars, Gimple’s fast lap time of 1:29.281-seconds on the Kansas Speedway roval course in Compass360 Racing’s No. 75 Children's Tumor Foundation/ HPD/Racing4research.org Honda Civic Si secured 15th on the grid after the 15-minute night qualifying session.

The 2.37-mile Kansas circuit features a good portion of the oval which doesn’t flatter the Honda Civic machines as well as some of the other competing manufacturers with the current performance balance. With four Caymans among the top-five starting positions, Gimple knows it will take some expert driving as well as another great race strategy from Compass360 to score a positive result.

“The Caymans are definitely the car to beat here,” said Gimple. “We’re just kind of hoping to get through this race. We don’t have the speed for the Caymans. The car was great, we just don’t have the straight line speed we need. We have a better brake package for this race which will help us for longevity on our brakes. We can brake a little bit deeper, but the Caymans can still out-brake us. They have more speed than we do and they’re better balanced so it’s a bit frustrating. We’re just waiting for that one track that suits the Civic better where we can breakthrough for a victory.”

Gimple is set to open the 2.5-hour race from 15th on the grid before handing the No. 75 Honda Civic over to co-driver Ryan Eversley who will finish the race.

The Grand Prix of Kansas is set to go green at 6:15 PM CT Saturday evening. Live timing and scoring can be found at http://scoring.imsa.com/sportscar-challenge/.
