2014 Canadian GP: Formula One F1 Starting Line-Up (Grid) & Race Preview

By Mike Sulka

The Formula One F1 series arrives at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix GP. The first Formula One F1 race at the track was held back in 1978 and was won by Gilles Villeneuve in a Ferrari 312T3 / Ferrari 015 after starting third. The track is now named after the legendary Canadian hero.

This will be the fourth F1 race held at the Montreal circuit after a one year lay-off that Bernie Ecclestone now admits was a mistake. Today, the Formula One drivers will race for 70 laps around the 4.361 km (2.709 mi) 13 turn track for a total race length of 305.270 km/189.694 miles.

Over the years, one driver has the best record in Canada... by far. Seven-time F1 driver's World Champion Michael Schumacher who had raced on the track 18 times with 7 wins, 14 top-fives and 14 top-tens.

Yesterday, Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg padded his stats with his third pole of the 2014 season, and 7th of his Formula One F1 career.

Out of the last 7 races at Canada, four have been won from Pole, two have been won from second, and one has been won from third.

For Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton, that might be good news. Hamilton starts second and has won this Grand Prix three times in the last six visits. Rosberg has never won in Canada.

With that in mind, we believe that the race will come down to a fight between Rosberg and Hamilton with Rosberg nailing down the victory. The Pole sitter has won the last three events in 2014.

With that being said... Keep an eye on the Safety Car. Montreal is an amazingly fast track, but it also has a significant history of incidents due to the narrowness of the first half of the circuit. An untimely Safety Car could certainly put other drivers right back in the mix.

Every race this season has been incredibly exciting right up until the checkered flag!

Enjoy!
