Archie Hamilton Takes Portimao's GT Open Podium Before Heading To Le Mans 24 Hours

23 year old Basingstoke driver, Archie Hamilton, claimed second position in the International GT Open race today in Portugal. After a troubled first round Archie, with co-driver Diederick Sijthoff, took the V8 Racing Corvette to their first podium finish this season in the 50 minute race yesterday.

After making a strong start, Archie gained three positions immediately and showed his strong pace. Despite a set-up change to help tyre wear on the front, the car proved more difficult to handle than in race one and times dropped quickly. Archie drove well to preserve positions knowing that the pair had an advantage in the pit-stops with having less of a time penalty than their rivals. Diederick took over after 15 laps and maintained the benefits that Archie had accrued, crossing the line in second place.

Archie had the second stint in race one yesterday, taking over from Diederick in 16th place and moving up the order to finish sixth overall and fifth in class.

Archie now returns to Le Mans for the 24 hour race in the Ram Racing #53 Ferrari 458 Italia. Qualifying takes place on Wednesday and Thursday with the race starting on Saturday 14th June at 3pm local time.

Archie Hamilton:
"It has taken us four races but we have now shown that we are podium contenders. Hopefully all our bad luck is now out of the way. I know we both have more time in us and the car can give us a little bit too so after Le Mans I will be focussing on how to continue getting results and hopefully getting a win before too long.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the Ferrari but most of all to getting back out on the Le Mans circuit. I completely understand my grandfather’s addiction and I hope that doing my best is enough to get our team onto the podium at Le Mans too. Sixty one years ago he took an overall win. If I can get a class podium or win then it’s a good next step to emulating his achievement.”
