Early End To Texas Night For Wilson

Looking for a return to victory lane at Texas Motor Speedway, Justin Wilson’s Firestone 600 came to an early and frustrating end on Saturday night after his NO. 19 Boy Scouts of America Honda/Dallara was forced into a spin midway through the race, making contact with the wall.

Wilson started the race from eighth on the grid with the Dale Coyne Racing machine, and held station through the early segments of the race to slot up one spot to seventh before the pit stop rotation took hold.

In an event that saw teams looking for speed all the way through the stint with tire management playing a key role, the Dale Coyne Racing strategy for Wilson caught the attention of the NBCSN broadcast team as the Briton was able to run impressively long between pit stops.

Unfortunately, Wilson and engineer Mike Cannon were not able to see the fruits of that plan pay off as Wilson was taken out of contention as he fought for position.

"I saw [Bourdais] got checked up at the previous corner and I knew my only way was on the inside, I got a good run, a lot of steam on Sebastian and as I was approaching he started to block but my run was so big, it was too much of a block, too late,” said Wilson.

“I popped inside but he kept coming until I was out of road and I ended up with two wheels on the apron on turn in and that is never going to work. It is a disappointing end to the day because we had a half decent car, maybe not quick enough for Will [Power] but definitely good enough to be up there fighting inside the top-10 and get a decent result. We were just getting stronger as the night went on and the team did a great job so it is disappointing."

Wilson will be back in Verizon IndyCar Series action on the streets of Houston with the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston presented by The Greater Houston Honda Dealers, June 27-29, on a temporary street circuit at Reliant Park in Houston, Texas.

The hot Houston weekend will see two races, with the first set for Saturday, June 28 and the second on Sunday, June 29.

Fans can tune in via live coverage from the NBC Sports Network beginning at 3:00 p.m. (ET).
