Rowe Racing With Strong Recoveries In Red Bull Ring ADAC GT Masters

The ROWE RACING team’s performance trend clearly showed upward in the ADAC GT Masters round at the Red Bull Ring over the Pentecost weekend. For the team from Worms in Germany, a troublesome qualifying Friday was followed by two races with particularly strong performances on Saturday and Sunday. The pairing of Jaime Alguersuari (Spain) and Nico Bastian (Germany) scored the best results with eleventh place on Saturday and tenth place on Sunday. In both races, the car with starting number 22 set the fastest race lap time of all five SLS AMG GT3 in the field. With ROWE RACING’s sister car, Maro Engel (Monaco) and Jan Seyffarth (Germany) also convinced with impressive recoveries that saw the duo make its way through the ranks to finish 13th on both occasions.

ROWE RACING’s team principal, Hans-Peter Naundorf: "The performance in the races on Saturday and Sunday made Friday’s qualifying result a little bit easier to bear for me. In both races, the pace was absolutely great and the team has proven its morale. However, it became clear once more how important a good starting grid position is. On a sprint distance, and even more so given the high quality of the field, a top result in the race can only be achieved with a top result in qualifying. We will use the upcoming summer break in the ADAC GT Masters season to improve in every aspect."

RACE 1: Saturday, 7 June, 2014
Driving the ROWE SLS AMG GT3 with starting number 22, Nico Bastian started the race on Saturday from 16th place on the grid. With more than half the field in front of him, the 24-year old German managed to make up three places on the opening lap. After that, he continued to attack and brought his gullwing close to the top ten. After the driver change to Jaime Alguersuari, the ex-Formula 1 driver continued to keep the pressure up and held on to his tenth place until the thrilling final stage of the race. An unsuccessful attempt to overtake on the final lap still made him drop back to eleventh. For the second ROWE RACING duo, qualifying didn’t go well either: Engel / Seyffarth were only 23rd on the grid. The recovery of the two drivers was all the more impressive: with a determined driving style, the duo made up no less than ten positions. Eventually, final driver Maro Engel crossed the finish line in a strong 13th place.

RACE 2: Sunday, 8 June, 2014
In the second race of the weekend, the two ROWE RACING duos again demonstrated their determination to leave their respective starting grid positions 18 (Engel / Seyffarth) and 19 (Alguersuari / Bastian) behind quickly. In summery temperatures, the 10,000 spectators at the Red Bull Ring got to see a thrilling race in which the two ROWE RACING cars managed to make up positions quickly. A safety-car intervention halfway through the race coincided with the time window for the mandatory driver change. During the stop, both ROWE RACING pairings lost some positions for a brief while again, but were able to get these back in the closing stages. The battle by final driver Bastian, who still managed to conquer tenth place with a brave move just before the end of the one-hour race, was particularly entertaining. In the gullwing with starting number 23, closing driver Jan Seyffarth finished only three places behind him in 13th position.

ROWE RACING’s next ADAC GT Masters outing is over two months away when the super sports car league takes on the second half of the season at the Slovakiaring (8 till 10 August, 2014).

Highlights from Red Bull Ring can be watched, among others, on Friday, 13 June, 2014, from 16.45 till 17.45 hrs on SPORT1.
