Rev Up For The Goodwood Festival Of Speed With Gran Turismo 6

The hugely-popular Gran Turismo®6 game returns to the Goodwood Festival of Speed as an official partner for the second year running, as the ‘Real Driving Simulator’ gets closer to reality than ever before. The huge crowds that are expected to gather across the four days have the chance to witness what is set to be the biggest collection of eye-catching, full-scale Vision Gran Turismo concept cars in the world to date.

Vision Gran Turismo embraces the unique partnerships between the Gran Turismo series and leading automotive partners. As a gift from manufacturers to mark the Gran Turismo series’ 15th anniversary, a number of innovative concept cars were designed for the virtual track in Gran Turismo 6. But at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, these audacious works of automotive art will also be brought to life in full-scale models displayed by a number of manufacturers.

Vision Gran Turismo was the brainchild of the game’s creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, who will be casting his expert eye over the range of concept models, before taking to the world-renowned Goodwood Hill Climb for some real-life high-adrenaline drives himself.

Lord March commented, “We are incredibly excited to welcome Gran Turismo 6 to Goodwood for the second consecutive year. The depth of Gran Turismo activities and Vision Gran Turismo concept car unveils taking place is impressive and we are delighted that the Festival of Speed has been chosen as a platform to showcase such innovative and visionary partnerships across the automotive industry. It will also be a great honour to welcome Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi to Goodwood who will support these host of activities first hand, including taking on our Hillclimb.”

With less than three weeks to go until the big event, Goodwood Festival of Speed fever has been further fuelled by Aston Martin and Gran Turismo 6. Live now and closing on 15th June, this special event invites GT6 players from the UK aged 18 or over to take the wheel of the stunningly recreated Aston Martin V12 Vantage up the legendary Goodwood Hillclimb in-game track. This GT6 online time trial competition comes with a spectacular prize where the winner will be invited to Goodwood Festival of Speed and be treated to a passenger ride up the real Festival Hillclimb in an Aston Martin sports car! Additionally, all participants who obtain a Bronze, a Silver and a Gold awards in the event will be rewarded with 1,000,000 in-game Credits in total, so there is really no reason not to try.

A number of Gran Turismo’s close manufacturer partners will be hosting their own Gran Turismo 6 gaming experiences at the event. These include Alfa Romeo, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Volkswagen. Professional drivers can also put Gran Turismo 6’s unrivalled realism to the test, taking to the Goodwood Hill Climb in a GT6 race seat in the Tag Heur Drivers Club to prepare them for the real thing.

Kazunori Yamauchi commented, “We are really pleased that the Goodwood Hillclimb has proved such a popular track amongst GT6 fans from around the world. I have always been a big admirer of the Festival of Speed. It feels that this year will prove even more special with so much new GT6 content being revealed at this annual automotive celebration. By sharing a common passion for innovation with so many manufacturers and partners it continues to bring the worlds of virtual and real driving ever closer, which will be demonstrated at close quarters at this year’s Festival.”

The blurring lines between virtual and real driving will also be embodied at Goodwood in the form of 2011 GT Academy champion Jann Mardenborough. Britain’s first ever GT Academy champion will be competing at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours, alongside racing in F1 feeder series GP3, and will enjoy his first taste of driving up the Goodwood Hillclimb in a range of Nissan performance cars.

Nissan, which is PlayStation’s partner in the innovative GT Academy programme that aims to take the best Gran Turismo gamers and turn them into real racing drivers, will be hosting a live event ‘wildcard’ competition at its Moving Motor Show area. Jann will be on hand to pass on advice to gamers looking to follow in his footsteps, with the competition giving gaming and motorsport fans the last chance to secure a place at this year’s GT Academy UK Final.
