The opening third of the 2014 MotoGP World Championship has already been completed, with Marc Marquez the clear dominant force. The series leader has taken every pole position and victory available, making an impeccable start with 150 points from a possible 150. Teammate Dani Pedrosa has seen his podium run ended after returning from arm pump surgery, and wants to return to the level of Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo to fight for the victory in Catalonia –where he has won once in every class.

Alex Marquez and Alex Rins were both involved in the battle for Moto3 glory at Mugello last time out, with differing fortunes. Rins was bested by just 0.011s, whilst Marquez was taken out by a rival on the final lap. Both riders come to Montmelo with renewed motivation after an additional day of testing at Mugello last Tuesday –in which the conclusions drawn were positive despite a crash for Marquez. Joining the duo in Repsol colours for the second time this season will be Maria Herrera, who wildcards in the World Championship again after taking seventeenth at Jerez.

Marc Marquez
"I really enjoyed the battle in Mugello with Jorge, it was so nice! Now we head home to Montmelo which is a track that I haven’t enjoyed myself at so much in the past but the layout is good and with a year’s experience I hope the situation will be different this year! The fans and of course my fan club all make the journey to come and support us and this gives me extra motivation, so I hope we can put on a good show for them all!"

Dani Pedrosa
"Mugello was more difficult than I expected and my arm still wasn’t 100%. I had a check-up with Dr. Mir after the race who confirmed everything is healing correctly, so I hope this weekend it will have improved and I can be in the battle at the front. As always, I’m looking forward to going to Montmelò, the track is nice but the atmosphere is amazing! We will have to work hard but I hope that the bike works well there as you spend a lot of time on the edge of the tyre here so a great setup is a huge advantage! Let’s hope the weather is nice and it’s a good weekend!"

Alex Rins
"It’s a Grand Prix that we look forward to –a home round. We took third in Italy, but it left a bad taste in our mouths because we were so close to the win. We will try to do better this time and, after all the work that we did in testing last Tuesday at Mugello, I have a strong desire to do well. This is a track which has never completely suited me, and it has always been a little tricky for me to adapt, but we are riding with a bike that we have yet to use there, so the feeling could be different. All my family and friends will be out supporting me, so I am sure that it will be a very special race."

Alex Marquez
"You always have extra motivation at a Grand Prix so close to home, as the Catalan GP is. Having friends and family around gives you a boost to do even better and to take a good result. Despite riding little at the Mugello test, we were able to work on strengthening aspects of the bike that could help us a lot at Montmelo. I also think that this is a circuit at which our bikes could go very well."

Maria Herrera
"After competing in the FIM CEV Repsol last weekend, now it is time to focus on the wildcard appearance at the Catalan Grand Prix. In my first World Championship wildcard round this year, at Jerez, I placed seventeenth ‒but above all I was pleased with everything that we learned. We improved every time we went out on track, so we will try to continue this at Montmelo."
