2014 Le Mans 24: Yamaha Motor Europe And TOYOTA Racing Prepare For Le Mans Challenge

Following a successful test early June on the Circuit de la Sarthe, World Endurance Championship leaders TOYOTA Racing are prepared to challenge for the famous Le Mans 24 Hours race, this year held on 14-15th of June.

The Le Mans 24 Hours is the toughest endurance road race in the world. The legendary event was first held in 1923. Through day and night major car manufacturers battle for glory on the semi-permanent circuit de la Sarthe, one of the longest tracks in the world. At this track the cars spent most of the lap on full throttle, which asks a lot from the engines, while the slow corners and tricky chicanes wear down the brakes and suspension. It is the ultimate test for road car durability and resource efficiency with teams driving over 5,000km during the race around the 13.6km circuit.

TOYOTA Racing has had a very successful season so far. The team won the fist round at Silverstone convincingly, scoring a 1-2 (#8 finishing first, #7 finishing second). The second race in Spa-Francorchamps was a close call, but the team still managed to take the victory (#8 finishing first, #7 finishing third), which gave the team a 48-point lead in the championship.

Yamaha Motor Europe (YME) has been an ‘Official Supplier of TOYOTA Racing’ since the start of TOYOTA Racing’s participation in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2012. To help TOYOTA Racing prepare for the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours race, YME proudly contributes by providing the TOYOTA’s team with Yamaha EC-03 electric (2-wheeler) units to improve the teams’ mobility off the track.
