First Responders At Talladega Superspeedway For Safety Stop

Safety equipment, in the form of two medic helicopters, a fire truck and two ambulances, converged at Talladega Superspeedway Wednesday on behalf of Air Methods as part of the Great American Safety Drive (GASD), a "Safety Stop" event put on for more than 50 area First Responders.

The event was part of a 12-city cross-country tour that began in Santa Monica, CA on May 31, and will end Sunday in Hilton Head, SC. The tour is designed to demonstrate the industry’s commitment to safety for medical crews and the patients they serve. In the track’s media center local first responders were treated to a half day of safety education.

The goal of the Great American Safety Drive is to raise $100,000 for Med Evac Foundation International (non-profit), earmarked specifically to support safety research, education and programs such as the Survivors Network and Vision Zero.

In addition to the safety equipment, first responders are pictured behind a classic Chevrolet Corvette, with the Talladega GEICO 500 Ford Mustang and the Ford Thunderbird that led the cross-country tour riding the track’s middle lane.

NASCAR speeds back into Talladega Superspeedway October 17-19 for the GEICO 500 Sprint Cup Series race and fred’s 250 Powered by Coca-Cola Camping World Truck Series event. NASCAR’s Most Competitive Track (record 88 lead changes in 188 laps), with the circuit’s steepest banking (33 degrees) and longest distance (2.66 miles), is also the most fun and fan-friendly, offering up hundreds of acres of free camping, amazing kids ticket prices and special offers for military members and college students. Talladega Superspeedway is also NASCAR’s "Party Capital" thanks to the track’s infamous infield and world renowned Talladega Blvd. The historic venue has always worked hard to enhance the fan experience in every way and now features the most comfortable seats in motorsports, large video viewing boards (a new initiative planned for future implementation at all ISC tracks) lining the frontstretch and endless activities for fans throughout its event weekends.
