Don’t Chance It. Check It: June is Garage Safety Month and Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) team partner, LiftMaster®, encourages fans to support the Celebrate Summer Safely, “Don’t Chance It. Check It” campaign during the month of June. As part of the LiftMaster® commitment to safety they will make a donation to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), a minimum amount of $10,000 will be donated. If Jamie McMurray wins one of the five NSCS races in June, LiftMaster® will add an additional $2,000 per victory to the NFFF.

Déjà Vu: Although Kyle Larson has never raced in an NSCS event at Michigan International Speedway (MIS), the track might have a familiar look and feel. MIS was used as a template for Auto Club Speedway in Southern California, which is where he has a career-best finish of second that came earlier this season. MIS, like Auto Club, features a wide racing surface that allows drivers to run multiple different lines and maintain high speeds through sweeping corners and long straightaways.

Jamie McMurray and No. 1 McDonald’s Team

Pocono Recap: Pocono Raceway, referred to as “The Tricky Triangle”, was the setting for the 14th race on the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) schedule. Jamie McMurray, driving the No. 1 Cushman Chevrolet, started the 160-lap Pocono 400 from the 18th position, and with quick pit work and strategy, raced to a 10th place finish. Although passing was as difficult as on any track on the circuit, the No. 1 team managed a race strategy that saw McMurray advance from a race-low 27th position, with just 50 laps to go, to his fourth top-10 finish of the 2014 season.

Michigan Stats: McMurray will be making his 23rd NSCS start at MIS this weekend In his previous 22 starts he has one top-five and four top-10 finishes. He has completed 4,188 of 4,339 (96.5%) laps of competition at the two-mile oval and has led 36 laps. McMurray’s best start of second place came in June 2010 and his best finish of fourth came in Aug. 2004.

McMurray Switches Helmets: McMurray traded his racing helmet for a NFL football helmet this week. On Tuesday June 10, the two-time winner at Daytona International Speedway (DIS), was in Florida to participate in some drills with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars on the team’s practice fields adjacent to EverBank Field. McMurray was with DIS president Joie Chitwood III to promote the upcoming Coke Zero 400 at DIS on July 5. McMurray fielded kickoffs, ran a few line drills, and ran routes and caught passes from the quarterbacks, including the Jaguars 2014 first-round draft pick, rookie Blake Bortles.

Kyle Larson and No. 42 Target Team

Pocono Recap: Coming on the heels of a win in the ARCA Racing Series Pocono 200 at Pocono International Raceway (Pocono), Larson drove the No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS to a top-five finish in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) Pocono 400, which was his first NSCS race at “The Tricky Triangle.” Larson, who had only seen the track under race conditions once before, which was during the ARCA race, took full advantage of a very good car throughout the race to steadily improve upon his 14th place start. In fact, Larson led the race for seven laps, the first time in his young NSCS career, before going on to finish fifth. It was Larson’s third top-five finish of the season.

Larson at Michigan: Although this will be Larson’s first NSCS start at MIS, he has logged race laps in both the ARCA Racing Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS). Larson first raced at Michigan during his first season racing stock cars in 2012, and finished 13th in the ARCA race. More recently, Larson turned an 11th place start into a second place finish in last season’s NNS race.

A Shopping Bullseye: If you have made it to the race only to find out you’ve forgotten to pack a few necessities, there’s no need to worry. For all your last minute needs and forgotten items, Target has all of the essentials and more. Target is located at 1076 Jackson Crossing in Jackson, Mich., and can be reached at (517) 788-3900.
