Tricky Day For Schrotter And Cardus At Catalunya

Marcel Schrotter will start from 17th position on the grid for the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya Moto2 race after experiencing a challenging qualifying session today. Schrotter worked ceaselessly with his Tech3 Racing Moto2 Team to resolve grip issues which he experienced yesterday, to perform brilliantly in this mornings FP3 session where he rode to 7th position. The German rider attempted to maintain his speed during the all-important qualifying session, however he was hampered by lack of confidence in the front of his Mistral 610 and prevented him from replicating his morning pace. Despite this he persevered, resolutely ending the session with a best time of 1.47,932 still only 0.8 tenths of a second from 2nd position, highlighting the extreme competitiveness of the intermediate Moto2 class. Tomorrow Schrotter remains fully confident of ascending up the field and securing another points scoring finish for the Tech3 Racing Team.

Ricky Cardus rode to a toughly contested 20th position in Qualifying for the Moto2 class 23-lap race in Montmelo after setting a best time of 1.48,026. The Spanish rider completed this mornings session in 27th position, yet just under a second back from 5th with high hopes for improving in qualifying. Cardus struggled with the searing track temperatures at the circuit, but nevertheless battled onwards with his Tech3 Racing Moto2 Team aboard the Mistral 610 to qualify on the seventh row, with his time being only one second back from 3rd place as the Spaniard aims to obtain another solid result whilst standing in for the recovering Alex Mariñelerena.

Schrotter - Catalunya - 2014Marcel Schrotter : 17th - Time : 1'47,932 - Laps : 19
"To be honest, I am disappointed with my qualifying result. I had some problems that didn’t occur during FP3 and as a result I struggled to match my best lap time. I didn’t have great confidence and couldn’t use the advantage of the new tyres as effectively as I wanted to with the bike behaving differently. Additionally, I changed my strategy for the session whilst riding on the bike. Initially I though I should stay out, but then decided to return to the pits to change my tyres. Unfortunately the timing was far from ideal as there were only a few minutes remaining. This was a pity as I was really strong in the morning session. I was riding on my own, unaided from other riders and anyway, close to the front. To start from behind is always difficult in this class as it is so competitive, however we will continue working during warm up and then fight hard whilst hunting for some further championship points."

Cardus - Catalunya - 2014Ricky Cardus : 20th - Time : 1'48.026 - Laps : 19
"It was a bit tricky out there on the circuit, but compared to yesterday my confidence and feeling on the bike has certainly improved. I was able to lower my lap time quite a lot, despite losing almost half a second in the last section of the circuit which we will need to work on during the warm up. I am sure that the team and I can amend these issues and be able to ride confidently through sector 4 in the race. Without doubt, I am looking to get a great start and climb the field straight away. For sure, I will give it my all especially to please my fans and family who have always supported me here in Catalunya."
