Another Tough Day For Siméon And Baldassarri At Circuit De Catalunya

The Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 had another tough day today at the Circuit de Catalunya, with Xavier Siméon who qualified 21st on the grid of tomorrow's Grand Prix with a best lap time of 1’48”068. The Belgian rider continued to struggle due to a severe lack of grip that forces him to lose time both on corner entry and exit. The team will continue to work tomorrow morning during the warm-up, hoping to improve, even if the race promises to be an uphill battle.

Aboard the Team Gresini Moto2 Suter machine, Lorenzo Baldassari finished this afternoon’s qualifying session with the 24th fastest time, 1’48”230, slowed by acceleration issues which occurred mainly in two points of the track.

XAVIER SIMEON (21st - 1'48"068)
“Our situation is very complicated at the moment... unfortunately we can’t exploit the potential of the tyres that Dunlop is providing to the teams from a couple of races and we are struggling more than the other riders. I am very disappointed, because we went from fighting for the top positions to try to stay in the top 20, and this is certainly not our target. I don’t know what else to say: we improved our lap times a little bit every day, but so did the others, and at the moment we don’t have any other ideas to try to improve further”.

LORENZO BALDASSARRI (24th - 1'48"230)
“I'm not satisfied, more or less we're still in the same situation as yesterday: we made some changes to the bike set-up, thanks to which we found a bit more grip, but in a couple of corners I lose a lot of time in acceleration and I can’t explain why. We tried to solve this problem in many ways, but we didn’t succeed. I also took some risks trying to be faster, but we still lack a lot: however, we will continue to work during the warm up tomorrow morning and hopefully we can improve ahead of the race”.

“Today was again a very difficult day for both our riders and it is clear that the situation should be analyzed in depth. Obviously we don’t like to fight at the back, when we know our real potential. Tomorrow we can’t expect great results: it will be an uphill battle, even if we will fight hard, as always. What is positive is that in a few days, on 19th and 20th of June, we will test in Aragon, where we can focus on finding a solution to these problems”.
