2014 NHRA: Jack Beckman NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals Qualifying Results: No. 11

Enough is enough for Jack Beckman and the Valvoline MaxLife Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car team.

There is no better time for a run of bad luck to end and a winning streak to begin than on Sunday in the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.

Jack and his team led by Rob Flynn have arguably had the best Funny Car at the past two Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events, but a problem beyond the Don Schumacher Racing team's control ended their mission to end a streak of 36 events over three seasons without making it to a winner's circle.

"Our day has been ended by a car winning with a time of 4.5 seconds and that just can't happen," Jack said of subpar runs by opponents that capitalized first by a $4 part failure on the Valvoline Dodge then an undetermined track traction issue two weeks ago at Englishtown, N.J.

"We have a car that's a lot better than what we've been able to show. No team is working harder and we need to get to the winner's circle and start winning a lot of rounds. This is the first of four straight races and we have seven over the next eight weeks. We have to make a move in the standings to get ready for the Countdown (to the Championship playoff).

"I keep saying we're close but it's time to finally get there."

The Valvoline team is qualified 11th with a best time of 4.123 seconds at 308.99 mph so it will not have lane choice in Sunday's first round of eliminations against Courtney Force, who qualified sixth.

Jack is looking for his first Bristol title and has advanced to the championship round there once (2011). A year ago, he qualified No. 2 but was upset in the opening round by No. 15-seed Blake Alexander.

On Sunday, Jack's first step toward a winning streak will be to be the one that opens by pulling the upset.

No. 1 Qualifier: Del Worsham (Kalitta Motorsports), 3.992 sec.*, 319.45 mph* (*track records)

JACK BECKMAN, Valvoline MaxLife Dodge Charger R/T
Qualified: No. 11
FRIDAY: 4.123 sec., 308.99 mph, (Session 1); 4.458, 199.17, (Session 2)
SATURDAY: 4.374, 249.72, (Session 3); 4.338, 242.89, (Session 4)
