2014 NHRA: Matt Hagan NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals Qualifying Report: No. 8

At each of the 24 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events, Matt Hagan wants to win.

But a win during tomorrow's 14th annual Thunder Valley NHRA Nationals at Bristol Dragway would be huge for multiple reasons.

Bristol Dragway is just a two-hour drive from Matt's home in Christiansburg, Va. Many of his friends have been watching the qualifying sessions in Thunder Valley and tomorrow his wife, Rachel, and children, Colby and Penny, along with his parents will arrive to cheer on Matt on Father's Day.

"It'll be great," Matt said of having his family with him for Sunday's championship eliminations, which begin at noon (ET). "Everyone wants to win and a lot of people have family members and kids out here and they want to win for them.

"I've never won here at Bristol, it's a home track for me, not far from home. I sure would love to turn on four win lights tomorrow."

The Mopar Express Lane/Rocky Boots Dodge Charger R/T qualified eighth in some of the hottest track temperatures teams have faced through 10 NHRA Mello Yello events this season. Track temperatures reached 131 degrees on Saturday and the forecast calls for warmer temperatures on Sunday.

"We've got a good race car. Dickie (Venables) has a handle on this car and it's performing well. We just have to go out and see what we can do tomorrow. We have Chad Head in the first round.

"It will just be good to have my family here. We have a lot of friends out here already and I sure would like to celebrate with them at the end of the day.
