2014 Le Mans 24: Weathertech Racing Sixth At Halfway In Le Mans 24

WeatherTech Racing is 12 hours into the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Cooper MacNeil and Jeroen Bleekemolen have made steady progress throughout the evening in the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing Porsche RSR prepared by ProSpeed Competition. The pair are classified in sixth in LMGTPRO at the halfway mark.

Continuing the quest to complete the 24 Hours of Le Mans with just two drivers Jeroen Bleekemolen (Monte Carlo) and Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) are into a rhythm that early had the duo doing double stints and as night fell both began to do triple driving turns at the wheel of the WeatherTech Racing Porsche. There has only been two stumbles so far in the team's race, two punctures, both on the Mulsanne straight and both with Bleekemolen at the wheel. The second came on lap 113 at 10:35 p.m.

"The car still feels really good," Bleekemolen said. "Again I had a tire blow up on me. The team found a piece of carbon in the tire. That will happen. The result is I have to go very slow around the circuit, in both cases almost four miles so I don't damage any other parts. Unfortunately that put us down some laps, but we are still ok. Cooper is doing a great job and I feel really good about our effort so far."

MacNeil put in his first Le Mans triple.

"I just jumped out from a triple stint," MacNeil said. "The WeatherTech Porsche is running strong, especially on old tires. The ProSpeed guys have the car handling well and we can drive it on old rubber and it is still very comfortable. Traffic has seemed to settle down, everyone is pretty spread out. We are following our plan to run our own race with a focus on the finish. We are looking good running in sixth."

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is being televised live, in its entirety, on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports 2 to its completion at 9:30 a.m. ET Sunday.
