2014 Le Mans 24: Alpine Running 2nd In LM P2 After Half-Way Point

After nightfall, positions in the LM P2 class tended to stabilise as Oliver Webb completed three stints on the same tyres in the N°36 Alpine A450b before handing over to Nelson Panciatici for two double stints.

The driver currently out on the track is Paul-Loup Chatin and the plan is for him to run two double stints, as well.

The Alpine A450b is now second on the LM P2 leaderboard and eighth overall with 13 hours completed. The top three runners in the class are covered by less than a lap.

Philippe Sinault, Signatech-Alpine Team Principal: “We are keeping up a strong pace at the moment as we run double stints. We have stabilised the gap to the leaders and are pulling clear of the cars behind us. We need to continue like this until the sun comes up.”

Oliver Webb: “I believe my triple stint went reasonably well and there were moments when I was going quite quickly. The team’s strategy was changed after my time in the car. My lap times improved when the temperature started to come down as it got dark. We’ve just passed the race’s halfway point but there’s still some way to go.”

Nelson Panciatici: “Doing four stints in the dark is always something special. I pushed hard but it was difficult to stay focused. I gave it my very best shot and thoroughly enjoyed myself!”
