ARCA Returns To Winchester For Silver Anniversary Show; 'King Of Wing' Sprint Cars & Top Speed Modifieds To Accompany; July 4 Fireworks & More

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will return to Winchester Speedway, the "World's Fastest Half-Mile" on Sunday, July 6, 2014 for the Herr's Chase the Taste 200 presented by Federated Car Care, marking the series' 25th silver anniversary appearance at the historic half-mile oval located near the Indiana-Ohio border, just northeast of Indianapolis.

The Herr's Chase the Taste 200 serves as the grand finale in a triple-header race weekend that includes the 'King of the Wing' Davey Hamilton-promoted Sprint Car East-West Shootout Friday, July 4 and the Top Speed Modified Tour on Saturday, July 5, which accompanies ARCA Racing Series practice and qualifying. The explosive and festive weekend culminates with the Herr's Chase the Taste 200 finale Sunday afternoon.

Celebrating a 'Century of Speed' at Winchester, the Friday night, July 4 show includes an Independence Day fireworks display, the 'Party in the Pavilion', the NASCAR Nationwide Series race from Daytona on big screen TVs and the Winchester Old Timers Club cars on display on the frontstretch.

While Winchester's amazing history reaches back 100 years, the ARCA Racing Series also goes way back at Winchester - to 1957 when Don O'Dell won the inaugural event in a Chevrolet in just the fifth season of competition for what would become ARCA's national tour.

"It's important for the ARCA Racing Series to race at Winchester Speedway. It's exactly the type of Midwestern facility where the ARCA brand is well-known and has the chance to be successful," said ARCA president Ron Drager. "Winchester is big enough and fast enough to play to the very nature of our cars."

Drager noted the important influence of Menards, the series' presenting sponsor, in scheduling the Winchester event.

"One of the strategic advantages of racing at Winchester is hosting an event inside the Menards footprint. As Menards emerges as our highest-profile marketing partner, racing inside that area has a lot of value."

Indiana native and defending race winner Frank Kimmel is the leading ARCA Racing Series winner at Winchester, with six victories (1996, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2013) followed by three-time series champ Tim Steele, who won four times (1993, 1995, 1997, 2001). Billy Leslie won from the pole in 2007. Leslie's father and 1988 series champion Tracy Leslie was also a winner at Winchester, triumphing in 1988 and 1999. Cunningham Motorsports went back-to-back with Winchester wins with Dakoda Armstrong in 2011 and Alex Bowman in 2012.

Other ARCA winners at Winchester over the years include Jack Bowsher (1964), Ralph Latham (1972), Bobby Watson (1972) and two-time series champion Marvin Smith, who won back-to-back races in 1982 and 1983. Other winners include Bob Keselowski (1990), Gary Bradberry (1994) and Bob Strait (1998).

Discount tickets will be available for $20 each at Menards locations in Anderson, Fort Wayne East, Fort Wayne South, Fort Wayne West, Muncie and Richmond, Ind., plus stores in Celina, Sidney and Tipp City, Ohio. Race fans can save $10 by purchasing a single-day ticket, or $20 by purchasing a three-day ticket for $55.

Frank Kimmel will appear with his No. 44 Ansell-Menards Toyota at the Richmond Menards store, 3800 National East Rd. from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4 and at the Anderson store at 2245 E. 67th St. from 2:30 to 4 p.m. His car will also be in the hauler parade heading to Winchester Speedway on Friday, July 4. A fireworks celebration will follow.

The Herr's Chase the Taste 200 presented by Federated Car Care will be at 2 p.m. The race will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
