Trackspeed - Snetterton British GT Preview

Snetterton is next on the cards as we approach the halfway mark of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship. While it hasn’t been the sought after start to the season for Trackspeed, the team have been able prove real pace, making solid progress, despite the challenging circumstances.

Silverstone was the most recent showing for the team; a dominant performance from the #33 car was looking likely to end in a top five position, however a mechanical failure 30 minutes before the end of the race snatched this from their grasp. After an astonishing qualifying, the #12 car started the race in sixth place, but a call to not pit during the safety car period dropped them down from what could have also been a top five finish.

Snetterton will be yet another opportunity for the team to vie for position while they continue to prove they have what it takes to be strong competitors, despite being plagued with a disproportionate balance of performance. Historically, the circuit has boasted good results for Trackspeed including a finish on the top step of the podium last year.

Team Manager, Keith Cheetham
“After our season started with a BoP that was very outdated, we feel that with the latest changes to our BoP we have a real chance of winning at Snetterton. The team are very much looking forward to turning this year around.”

Jody Firth #12 Driver
"In a lot of ways we had a very successful Silverstone in terms of showing our consistency over the longer race distances, however not pitting under the first safety car (which turned out to be the only safety car) really crippled us. Had there been a second, we would have recovered from this and a top 5 finish was on the cards. Having said that, the Porsche is still well behind in terms of the balance of performance. Trackspeed are doing a fabulous job, but for reasons out of our control the oppositions BoP is not fair. We have all made a commitment however, and will soldier on. Snetterton has the potential to be very good for the Porsche, so we may be closer to the ultimate pace than we have been in previous races. You can take it from me that myself, Warren and all at Trackspeed will be giving our maximum efforts"

Based 30km Southwest of Norwich, the 2.99mi circuit will feature two 1-hour races. The British GT will take place alongside the British F3 Championship and the new BRDC Formula 4 Championship, amongst others. It is set to be an action packed Motorsport weekend; further details and ticket information can be found HERE.
