2014 NHRA: Force Returns To Site Of Inaugural Win In Epping

Courtney Force will return this weekend to the 2nd Annual Auto-Plus NHRA New England Nationals, the site of her third career win. Force won the inaugural event in 2013 by qualifying No. 3 and defeating Alexis DeJoria, Tim Wilkerson, Jack Beckman and finally John Force en route to her second win of the 2013 season.

“I’m excited for this coming weekend. Being back at a race track that we had a lot of success at last year is exciting. We won the inaugural event in Epping and have a lot of good date from our first year of competition there. We want to get there. I think we have a little bit of an upper hand on our competition by having the inaugural win under our belts in the Traxxas camp,’ said Force.

After qualifying in the top half of the field for the first time ever at Bristol Dragway last weekend, the No. 6 qualifier took the win over competitor Jack Beckman in the opening round. She posted a 4.199 ET at 302.35 mph to Beckman’s tire-smoking 4.787 ET at 181.64 mph. Force has won in their last four meetings and is now 5-2 against him. In the second round, Force lost to Tony Pedregon when her Traxxas Ford smoked the tires, but the team managed to keep a firm grasp on the No. 6 spot in points.

The 2012 NHRA Rookie of the year will be turning 26-years-old on Friday of the New England Nationals this week and is hoping to bring some birthday luck to the track.

“It feels great to return to a race track where you’ve done well in the past and we’re excited to be back. It’s going to be my birthday weekend so hopefully we can celebrate again in the winner’s circle this year. We’re definitely pushing for it,” said Force.

The Auto-Plus NHRA New England Nationals is the second stop along a four-race swing over the next several weeks. The winner of the 100th win by a woman in NHRA pro history (Topeka, 2014) has qualified in the top half of the field eight times out of ten races this season. She has started from the front twice and has posted top speed at four races this year.

“Our team is making improvements and making large strides every weekend. I’m definitely hoping we can go some rounds. We’re working on picking up points, so hopefully we can pick up a few during qualifying and go some rounds on race day,” said Force.
