2014 NHRA: Brittany Force Energized For Epping

Brittany Force may have suffered a first round loss at last weekend’s NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, but the 2013 NHRA Rookie of Year is excited and pumped up to be heading back to Epping, New Hampshire for the second annual NHRA New England Nationals. The second stop of four back-to-back races, Brittany Force looks at the positives of how her car and team have been performing and is focused and ready to jump back in the seat of her 10,000 horsepower Castrol EDGE Dragster in search of her first Top Fuel win.

“I love back-to-back races, it keeps me even more focused and I think we perform better when we’re constantly on the move. My crew and I were a little bummed after our first round loss last weekend at Bristol, but I told my guys we are going to jump back into it next weekend at Epping. We’ll use that momentum to qualify great, go some rounds and really go after it. We want to be in that winner’s circle in Epping,” said Brittany Force.

With her strong qualifying performances, Brittany Force made a trip to the finals earlier this year and had a strong finish two weeks ago at the Toyota NHRA Summernationals in which she drove her dragster to top ten qualifying position and quarterfinal finish, she wants to keep the momentum going as she heads into the NHRA New England Nationals.

Her sophomore year in the Top Fuel class has seen a dramatic improvement from her rookie season in both her skills as a driver and the attitude of the team.

“Our Castrol EDGE team is so much stronger than it was last year. Todd Smith (crew chief) and Dean Antonelli (assistant crew chief) and the rest of my guys have been doing awesome this season. We’ve been the number one qualifier twice in three races and I know we’ll get our first Top Fuel win real soon,” said Brittany Force.

During last year’s NHRA New England Nationals, Brittany Force and her Castrol EDGE Top Fuel Dragster faced seven-time NHRA Mello Yello Top Fuel champ Tony Schumacher in the opening round. The tricky track conditions of the new racing surface had both of the 10,000 horsepower dragsters hazing their massive Goodyear racing slicks, with Schumacher grabbing the win with a 4.022 second run to Brittany’s 4.153.

Going into this year’s NHRA New England Nationals, the Castrol EDGE team will be armed with valuable data recorded at last year’s event. Since this is the second race at New England Dragway, it does level the playing field for all the crew chiefs and teams competing at the New England Nationals.

“The one benefit of going into Epping is it’s a brand new track on our series. We ran here last year and I have been down the racetrack just as many times as my competitors. No one driver or team has an advantage over the other, we’ve all made the same number of runs down New England Dragway,” said Brittany Force.

Currently eighth in the NHRA Mello Yello points chase, Brittany’s happy in the direction the Castrol EDGE team is heading. Even though she’s still disappointed in her first round loss at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals, she’s not dwelling on it and knows her racecar is capable of running with any other Top Fuel Dragster on race day.

For now, the always-optimistic 27 year-old Brittany Force and her team are looking forward to getting their first win at New England Dragway. With what they’ve learned these past twelve months, it could happen. Even with back-to-back races, Brittany still finds time to focus on her reaction times and review her routine as a driver. She knows what needs to get done this weekend - qualifying in the top half of the field, getting lane choice and going rounds on race day.

“I’m very proud of my guys and how we’ve been running this year. I know we’re going to make it to the finals again and that very well might happen at New England Dragway this weekend,” said Brittany Force.
