Another Top-10 Finish For Packard In The Spring Green 114 ACT Race

With Mother Nature winning again this season and canceling the show at Thunder Road, Emily Packard and her 9x Northstar Fireworks/Packard Fuels team had a little more time to prepare the car for the American Canadian Tour race at Devil’s Bowl.

Having run the last few weeks at Devil’s Bowl the team went into this race optimistically cautious. Packard’s success in previous weeks was pushed out of her head and she was focused on the task of the day. Starting 8th in the heat and only 10 laps to work with, Packard found herself held up in traffic but finishing in 5th place. This gave her a +3, which was enough to score her the pole for the consolation race. “10 laps is not enough time to pass,” said Packard. “I found myself stuck in traffic, and was just not able to gain one more position.”

Starting on the pole for the consolation race, Packard wasted no time in checking out from the field, and won the race, securing her a starting spot in the Spring Green 114 race. “We got to start on the pole for the consolation race thanks to a good +/- finish in the heat race,” Packard said. “We were able to run away with it and win it.”

When the teams rolled off for the green flag, Packard started in the 4th position and unable to get down into the bottom groove to pass, immediately fell back to 14th place. “We were fighting the car all day, it just did not want to handle for me,” said Packard about fighting with a tight race car. “The track was greasy, and the guys tightened the car up too much after the consi, and I struggled to stay on the bottom during the race.”

Packard, determined not to give up, took her time and picked off cars one by one, trying to get as many positions as she could. During a restart Packard was marred behind two lapped cars and lost 4 spots, but settled in and moved her way back towards the front. On lap 100 Packard was in 10th position, but cautions and lapped cars continued to play a role in her progress. When the checkered flag finally fell on the race, Packard brought her 9x Northstar Fireworks/Packard Fuels car home in 6th place. “The guys worked hard and tried to get the car to go,” said Packard. “It was a really good race with some really hard racing towards the end, but we were able to come out with a 6th place finish and bring the car home in one piece.”

“Thank you to my team for the all the hard work this past weekend” said Packard. “I also want to thank all my sponsors, Northstar Fireworks, Packard Fuels, Rutland Regional Medical Center, Be the Match, R.G. Paving, Yipes! of Barre, Fecteau Homes, Berlin Optical Expressions, and GossCars.com.”

Packard continues to sit 4th in the American Canadian Tour points, just 2 points back from third and 8 points out of second in the ACT Championship points standings. Packard and the team head to White Mountain Motorsports Park this Saturday for the 6th race of the American Canadian Tour.
