Hilmer Motorsport Ahead Of The GP2 Race Weekend At The Red Bull Ring In Austria

The fourth of eleven rounds in the GP2 Series will take place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria this weekend. The 4.326 kilometers long track is new on the GP2 calendar and Hilmer Motorsport and the other 12 teams will enter new unknown territory. With a distance of a little more than 300 kilometers to the team base in the Bavarian village Niederwinkling the Red Bull Ring is even closer than Hilmer Motorsport’s real home race at the Hockenheimring, which will take place in July.

After the first three race weekends the points account of the German team is still empty, but the squad is hoping for the long-awaited sense of achievement to come in Austria. The team of Team Principal Franz Hilmer has been out of luck so far and wants to enjoy a well-deserved reward for the hard work in the last months. Especially Daniel Abt showed with his third starting position at the season opener in Bahrain and with constant quick lap times in the previous races that the car is very competitive and that the team has to be ranked among the front runners. This should be emphasized with a good result at the Red Bull Ring and the first points of the season.

The weekend will kick off with Practice on Friday (20th June, 12:00) and with the fight for Pole Position in Qualifying (20th June, 15:55). The Feature Race will start on Saturday (21st June) at 15:40 and the Sprint Race on Sunday (22nd June) will begin at 10:35.

Franz Hilmer, Team Principal Hilmer Motorsport:
"The season will start from new for us at the Red Bull Ring after the first three race weekends didn’t go as expected for us. We know that our car is very fast and that we are definitely able to fight for the race win. But it doesn’t really help us when we get into difficult situations without our fault and when our weekend is over before it really started. ‘The best things come in threes’ – in our case it should be ‘The bad things come in threes’ and we hope that we can finally get rid of the bad luck. We want to reward ourselves for the hard work with a position on the podium and maybe we can celebrate our first win of the season. Daniel Abt has shown before that the car is very fast and that when everything goes according to plan we are a contender for the race win. Facu Regalia did the quickest lap times in Monaco and he is also able to score points. We have the right package. For sure we will be successful soon and the barren run will be over.”

Daniel Abt, Driver #11 Hilmer Motorsport:
"The Red Bull Ring is new on the GP2 calendar but I have known it from my races in Formula 3 before. It is a great circuit with many uphill and downhill parts and it is a lot of fun to drive. It is a challenge for the drivers and teams to find the right setup in the short practice times but we are well prepared and I am looking forward to the challenge. After three unlucky race weekends without scoring points I want to have a well-deserved result for me and the whole team. I am still highly motivated and I will give everything.”

Facu Regalia, Driver #12 Hilmer Motorsport:
"In the last three races I had a lot of problems. I hope that we can leave this behind and that we will have a good weekend. At the pre-season test days and in the second race in Monaco we had a good pace. Hopefully we can repeat this in Austria and turn it into a good result. The Red Bull Ring is a circuit I have never raced before. Therefore I was in the simulator together with my track engineer and prepared myself for the new track. It was a good practice and I am looking forward to doing the first laps on the real circuit.”
