CBS Sports Network To Broadcast Live ARCA Race At Elko Speedway Saturday Night

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards and the CBS Sports Network together will be launching a new venture at Elko Speedway where the network will broadcast its first-ever ARCA race at 9 p.m. ET Saturday, June 21, live from the Elko action-packed short track.

The third annual Akona 250 presented by Federated Car Care will offer a unique look at the ARCA tour on the .375-mile bullring in Elko, Minnesota.

"We will bring state of the art production and storytelling to our CBS Sports Network shows and I can't wait to showcase ARCA's garage full of outstanding young and veteran drivers...plus terrific race teams," said veteran motorsports television anchor/analyst Rick Benjamin.

Benjamin's production company, Carolinas Production Group, will produce the shows. Benjamin will serve as the play-by-play announcer for the Akona 250 presented by Federated Car Care, plus two more ARCA races coming up - July 6 at Winchester Speedway and August 24 at Madison International Speedway.

The color analyst will be Andy Hillenburg, the 1995 ARCA driving champion. Todd Lewis, veteran of NASCAR Canadian Tire, Champ Car, and IndyCar coverage, will handle the pit road duties at Elko.

"We'll be bringing racing fans incredible action from three of America's best short tracks at Elko in Minnesota, Winchester in Indiana, and Madison in Wisconsin," Benjamin said. "Each of these races will be its own major event for CBS Sports Network and we can't wait to get started."

The Akona 250 presented by Federated Car Care has several interesting story lines. For one, NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader won the pole for last year's race and is back for another go-around the .375-mile track. Defending race winner Frank Kimmel - the 10-time ARCA champion - is searching for his first win with Win-Tron Racing. Grant Enfinger won the first three races of the season but has slipped into second place in the season point standings behind Mason Mitchell, who has a string of 17 straight top 10 finishes. Kyle Benjamin, 16, has two wins on ARCA short tracks under his belt already and is searching for a third with the Roulo Brothers. Venturini Motorsports will have four cars in Elko and Cunningham Motorsports two as each team is hoping for some short track success. And, last year Josh Williams wasn't planning to run the full race, then qualified fourth and finished sixth. He brings his own team to Elko this year.

"The ARCA short track race events are some of the best each year, and we're excited to bring the side-by-side action to CBS Sports Network's viewers," said Mark Gundrum, ARCA Vice President for Business Development and Corporate Partnerships.
