Dennis And King Charge Through The Field In Spa-Francorchamps

Carlin drivers Jake Dennis and Jordan King put in a stunning recovery in race two, following a disappointing FIA Formula 3 European Championship qualifying session yesterday. King lined up 15th while Dennis started all the way down in 21st, but both drivers fought back with Dennis taking sixth place and King 10th.

Once again, Dennis made a stunning start as the lights went out for race two. By the end of lap two Dennis was already 10th while King was 13th. King was under pressure though, Tom Blomqvist in the Jagonya Ayam with Carlin car was on the attack and passed King for 13th on lap four.

Ahead of them, F3 rookie Dennis was showing good pace, the Racing Steps driver passed Alexander Toril for ninth place as King ran in 14th place with a damaged front wing.

The safety car was called out while marshals cleared an accident between Felix Serralles and Lucas Auer, with Dennis now seventh and King 12th. At the restart both Carlin men held position and Dennis was soon attacking John Bryant-Meisner for sixth place. After a prolonged fight, Dennis took the position on lap 13.

Dennis maintained his position to the chequered flag, taking points for sixth place despite his 21st grid slot while King took another championship point in 10th despite his car’s handling adversely affected by his broken front wing.

Speaking about the drivers’ performance, Trevor Carlin said, “We’ve seen some excellent racing from the Carlin drivers today. You can often tell more about a driver when the odds are stacked against him, and both Jake and Jordan rose to the challenge today to make their way back into the points.”

Sixth place man Dennis added, “It was a pretty good race, by the first lap I was 11th and from there I just slowly worked my way through the field. My pace was pretty good compared to the people around me. I found myself in the top seven at the restart and then I just managed to take one more place before the flag. We ran our worst set of tyres too, so I’m hoping we can make similar if not better progress again tomorrow.”
