2014 NHRA: Jack Beckman NHRA New England Nationals Qualifying Report: No 6

Jack Beckman's 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Series season can be summed up in two words: roller coaster.

The popular driver known as "Fast Jack" has experienced the highs and lows in the ultra-competitive division of NHRA Funny Car racing during both his career and this season. Given that, the 2012 NHRA Funny Car world champion knows patience and persistence are to very good qualities to possess.

"You can't fast forward and see if it's the ending you want it to be like it was two years ago," Beckman said after qualifying in the No. 6 position at New England Dragway on Saturday afternoon.

"So you have to live in the moment and a lot of times it's a tremendous amount of stress. What we do in these cars on a regular basis can be stressful and you throw in the variables like how the car is running it can be very demanding and you have to balance that."

Beckman, who advanced to the final round at Houston Raceway Park five races ago, has the confidence in the veteran leadership of his team led by crew chief Rob Flynn and assistant Terry Snyder, who helped direct the Valvoline team to the championship in 2012.

"There is a lot of light at the end of the tunnel," Beckman added. "We've run well. We've already been to a final round. But, until you close the deal and win a race, you can't call the season successful. Tommy Johnson was the first of the four DSR Funny Cars to do that this year and I'm hoping that opens up the flood gates for the rest of us."

Jack hopes a deluge of DSR Funny Car wins continues Sunday afternoon at New England Dragway.

The following are Beckman's qualifying results and other notes from the NHRA New England Nationals:
