The reigning Triumph Triple Challenge champion will fly to Portimao later this week for his first test on the team’s CBR600RR machine ahead of his first race at the Portuguese track the following weekend.

He will also contest the final two rounds of the 2014 championship at Jerez, Spain in September and Magny Cours in France in October.

The 18-year-old Geordie has not raced since the final round of the Triumph Triple Challenge last season, as he took some time out to concentrate on his A-Levels. With his final exam completed last week, he is now ready to get back on board and admits he is can’t wait to get back in action.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back out, and it’s fantastic to have been given an opportunity like this with Racedays Honda,” he said. “It’s been eight months since I’ve raced so to say I’m desperate to get out there is probably a bit of an understatement.

“I had to concentrate on the exams but now they’re done I can go back to giving the racing my full focus, and there’s probably no better way than to be thrown into a totally new championship on new tracks and with a new bike.”

Having only raced in the UK up until now, Rouse knows he has his work cut out getting to grips with a new machine and track, but he’s taking it all in his stride as he prepares for his first test.

“I’ve never raced at any of these European tracks so I’ve got to learn it all from scratch but I’m quite looking forward to that. It’s also a new bike and I know it’s a very strong field so that will take a bit of getting used to.

“I know it is going to be very difficult, it’s going to be hard work but I’m certainly looking forward to it. I’ll have a better idea after I’ve tested the bike at the weekend, but for now I don’t want to be setting any big expectations.

“I can’t wait to get out there and give it a try, and I would like to thank the Racedays Honda team for giving me this opportunity.”

As well as contesting the final rounds of the FIM European Superstock 600 Championship, Rouse intends to race in the final two rounds of the FIM CEV Repsol Moto2 races in November.
