Emil Bernstorff Victorious At The Red Bull Ring

A brilliant weekend for the Anglo-Dane saw him take a 2nd place in race one and his first GP3 series win and fastest lap in race 2.

The weekend started with a solid qualifying securing the p3 start slot behind Carlin teammate Lynn in a very tight qualifying session. Come Race one both Carlin drivers had a strong getaway and entered the first corner in first and second position. Quickly they managed to establish a gap to the field and securing a dominant 1-2 finish.

In the reverse grid race on Sunday morning Emil therefore started 7th with a podium finish a big ask.

However, a great start saw him make up positions off the line and up into turn 2. Going into turn 3 on the second lap he was up into p4 and saw an opportunity as the two leaders were battling for the lead and Yelloly in P3 was positioned very wide, Emil chose the middle of the track and as the two leaders touched was able to undercut all 3 coming out of the corner in the lead. From there he was able to build a solid gap and secure a convincing win while setting fastest lap in the process.

A very happy Emil beamed: "Barcelona wasn’t quite what we hoped for but a second and a first, you really can’t hope for much more in a weekend, especially after starting from seventh in race two. We knew from pre-season testing that we had the speed but the first win is always hard so I am happy to get one so early on. Hopefully we can carry this momentum forward into Silverstone."

Next GP3 races are at Silverstone on July 5-6th.
