GB Autosport Looking to Continue Momentum at Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen

After taking a season-best finish of ninth at Detroit, GB Autosport looks to continue to build momentum as the team prepares for its debut outing in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen this Sunday (Fox Sports 1, 11:00 AM).

The trio of Damien Faulkner, Ben Barker and Michael Avenatti will team up in the No. 81 Tully’s Porsche 911 GT America for the six-hour race, which also constitutes the third round of the Tequila Patron-sponsored championship-within-a-championship North American Endurance Cup (NAEC).

The most recent IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship outing saw the Tully’s machine running strongly around the streets of Detroit’s Belle Isle in the capable hands of Barker as he handed it over to Faulkner just outside of the top-five. But contact from behind forced the Porsche off track, with the team having to fight back to take ninth at the checkered flag.

The Detroit frustration is now an added source of motivation for the squad, which finished 10th in the Sebring 12 Hour in the most recent endurance round.

GB Autosport understands that winning races requires just the right combination of hard work, dedication and perseverance on the part of the team as well as just plain old racing luck. Through the first four races of the season the entire GB Autosport crew has shown no shortage of the first three traits, but racing incidents have kept their racing luck sour.

Watkins Glen is the first race event featuring all four TUDOR classes since Sebring, and the Tully’s crew is prepared to navigate cleanly through a congested circuit of 55 cars at Watkins Glen to bring home a solid result.

Although experience between the three drivers at Watkins Glen is limited, the trio can absolutely not be discounted because all three bring a massive amount of Porsche racing experience to the fabled track.

“It’s such a great track,” said Faulkner who has one previous IMSA start at Watkins Glen. “I would say it is definitely one of the best tracks in the United States, if not the whole world. I can’t even really pinpoint a favorite part of the track but it is all just really great to drive, so I am looking forward to the weekend. This whole team has worked really hard and (Michael) Avenatti has done a great job of giving us what we need to perform well, now it is just time for all of the elements to come together.”

While this race marks just the second in the TUDOR Championship with GB Autosport, and second-ever visit to the United States, Barker campaigns full-time in the highly competitive Mobil 1 Porsche Carrera Cup category in Europe. The Brit arrives to the upstate New York circuit on the high of a huge victory in Carrera Cup competition at Le Mans last weekend. Avenatti also brings countless of miles of Porsche experience for his debut at Watkins Glen.

“This will be my first time at Watkins Glen,” said Avenatti. “So as a new track of course it presents a challenge, but I have studied it and am just excited for the whole event. Everyone loves Watkins Glen, it is really a ‘driver’s track’ so I’m looking forward to being back in the car at the six hours. This team is young but we are learning every day. And there is no question that we are going to be a threat as the season progresses.”

The team will have two full 55-car field practice sessions ahead of the 15-minute session of GTD qualifying for the famous 6-hour event which is set for Saturday June 28th at 3:55 PM (ET). The Sahlen’s 6 Hours of the Glen will go green Sunday at 11:15 AM (ET) and will be televised LIVE on FOX Sports 1 starting at 11:00 AM (ET).
