Positive Weekend for Nick Yelloly in Austria

Nick Yelloly was in action last weekend for round two of the GP3 series at the Red Bull Ring in Austria; with a seventh and a fifth place finish.

After a point scoring opening round at Barcelona, Yelloly was keen to pick up where he had left off. He was third fastest in Practice one, just five tenths of the lead pace; as a result it looked hopeful for another points scoring weekend. Not being able to match the fast pace he had in practice; after suffering from traffic on his qualifying lap, he ended up ninth on the grid for race one.

The British driver started well having got a great start; to climb from ninth to sixth. A safety car featured in the race bunching the cars back together, from the restart Yelloly got boxed in going into turn two; and was overtaken by Matheo Tuscher to finish seventh at the end of the race.

Nick was second on the grid for Sunday’s race. Himself and pole sitter Sa Silva diced wheel to wheel for the first lap until Yelloly got the pass completed on lap two of the race; giving him the lead. A thrilling duel between the pair saw Sa Silva retake the place putting Nick back to his starting position. An incident ahead of Nick caused a bottleneck on the track, slowing him and allowing team mate Stanaway and also Eriksson to make the pass. The battle for third became a four-way battle and the rookie South African, De Beer, managed to take fourth from Yelloly to leave him fifth in the race.

A solid points finish meant Nick left Austria tied for ninth in the championship just three points behind eighth place.

His next race is on the 4th-6th of July from Silverstone, where he will be looking to make his mark at his home race.
