Solid Showing For Volvo Polestar Racing In Darwin

Volvo Polestar Racing drivers Scott McLaughlin and Robert Dahlgren had to fight hard in the Skycity Triple Crown 400, the race which marks the midway point of the V8 Supercars Championship 2014 season.

McLaughlin scored two top five finishes, qualified second on the grid for the first race, and set the fastest lap in the final race.

"The team gave me a great car and a great strategy for the final race," said Scott McLaughlin. "We didn't have the pace for the top three in the races, but we are making progress and I am pretty happy."

Team-mate Dahlgren's weekend turned out to be tough, with 22nd as his best result in qualifying, 18th as his best race result, and a retirement in the final race due to a stuck throttle.

"I made some mistakes in qualifying unfortunately which cost me a top 10 grid position which was really annoying," said Dahlgren.

"I had some hard battles in the first two races, and then after the first pitstop in the final race I had a stuck throttle in fifth gear. It was a really tough and long day at the office today."

While not being able to fight for the top three in the first two races, McLaughlin was pleased with the speed of his Volvo S60 Polestar V8 Supercar. The third and final race saw McLaughlin starting on the hard compound tyres, which meant a fight-back in the last part of the race, climbing from 13th on the grid to eighth position.

"I was one of the fastest drivers on the older, used hard tyre which was good. Hopefully we can take this knowledge into the next race at Townsville and we will be on it," said McLaughlin.

The 2014 V8 Supercars Championship hit the halfway point in Darwin, with McLaughlin in seventh position in the drivers' championship, and Volvo Polestar Racing seventh in the teams' championship.

"The first half of the season has been extremely exciting and well exceeded our expectations result-wise," said Christian Dahl, owner of Polestar.

"The team has done an excellent job with the car and Scott has performed really well in the first 19 races, with our first victory as the highlight. Robert is learning the hard way that this is one of the very toughest championships in the world, and he is slowly but surely making progress. Bring on the second half of the season."

The next race in the V8 Supercars Championship is the Castrol Townsville 500, from 4-6 July.
