BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT

Puerto Rican Getaway: Ryan Briscoe, along with team owner Chip Ganassi, attended the NTT DATA North America Senior Leaders Meeting in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico earlier this week to serve as speakers for the event. The event included the 115 top NTT DATA leaders in North America coming together to network and plan for the year ahead.

First Father’s Day: Briscoe celebrated his first Father’s Day with his six-month-old daughter, Finley. He and his wife, ESPN broadcaster Nicole Briscoe, welcomed daughter Finley into the world in December.

Top of the Class: Throughout the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season, Briscoe and NTT DATA Racing have completed 908 of 929 laps or 97% of the seasons’ laps.

Sweet Home Texas: After spending most of May in Indiana for the inaugural Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the 98th running of the Indianapolis 500, NTT DATA Chip Ganassi Racing will be spending much of June in Texas. The team was in Fort Worth the first weekend of June for the Firestone 600 and then will be racing in a double-header Grand Prix on the Streets of Houston this weekend.

Wild Ride: Briscoe was signed to CGRT in 2005 as a full-time driver, but after a season-ending incident at Chicagoland Speedway his Indy car racing career took a step back. Since his 2005 debut season he has raced with multiple teams, including a four-season stint with Penske Racing. Throughout his Verizon IndyCar Series career, Briscoe has collected seven wins, 13 pole positions and has led 1,430 laps. The 2014 season is his first full-time season since 2012.

Finding New Roads: All four CGRT Indy cars are utilizing the Chevrolet 2.2-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine for 2014 season. The engine produces well over 600 horsepower and close to 300 lb. ft. of torque.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR THE GRAND PRIX OF HOUSTON

Ryan Briscoe and No. 8 NTT DATA Chevrolet

First-Timer: The Shell Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston will be the fifth Indy car race conducted at MD Anderson Cancer Center Speedway at NRG Park, however this will be NTT DATA Racing and Briscoe’s first appearance at the Grand Prix of Houston

Street Warrior: Throughout Briscoe’s nine-year career in the Verizon IndyCar Series, he has recorded seven wins and has won 13 pole positions. Of his seven wins in the Verizon IndyCar Series, three have been on a road or street course. In terms of his 13 pole positions, six of those have been on a road or street course.

Race Rewind – Texas Motor Speedway: The No. 8 NTT DATA Chevrolet started the 248-lap race at Texas Motor Speedway on the inside of row seven in the 13th position. A fire on the lap six of 248 from the No. 25 car put the field under yellow for five laps, and Briscoe was 15th on the restart. By lap 25, the No. 8 had moved up one spot to 14th. The NTT DATA Chip Ganassi Racing crew conducted their first pit stop on lap 57 for fuel, tires, rear wing adjustments and the No. 8 remained in the 14th position until coming in to pit for the second time for fuel and tires on lap 105. Briscoe took advantage of a long yellow that occurred on lap 119 for a multi-car incident between the No. 11 and the No. 19 and pitted for the third time for fuel and tires. The green flag waved for a restart on lap 134 and by lap 144 the No. 8 had moved up to the ninth position. Briscoe made his fourth pit stop on lap 170 and made his final scheduled pit stop on lap 210. With only 30 laps remaining, the No. 8 had moved up to the eighth position where it would stay until the field went under caution on lap 240. The field went green again on lap 246 and Briscoe moved up one spot and crossed the finish line in the seventh position. After review, INDYCAR officials issued the No. 8 NTT DATA Chevrolet a 30-second penalty that resulted in the loss of two positions for the final race order, which put Briscoe in ninth position for the Firestone 600.

Briscoe on the Grand Prix of Houston: “It’s been really nice to have a few weeks off and be able to refocus and get ready for the Grand Prix of Houston doubleheader this weekend. Even though we didn’t have any races the last few weeks, we did get in a lot of testing. Both the team and I learned so much in that short time and I’m really excited to be able to put all of that data we got to good use. This will be my first time racing here at Houston on the street course, but I feel prepared to get out there and show what the No. 8 NTT DATA Chevrolet can do.”
