Record Grid Of 17 Cars To Race For Victory At Watkins Glen

The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America will feature the largest field in its history, including American Formula One veteran Scott Speed, when the exciting 2014 season continues with two rounds June 27-28 at historic Watkins Glen International.

The North American series, in its second season, will compete at the iconic circuit in the scenic Finger Lakes region of upstate New York for the first time with a record grid of 17 cars. The 11-turn, 3.4-mile layout includes "The Boot," one of the most famous turn complexes in North American racing.

Two 50-minute races are scheduled for competitors in the incredible Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo cars, which are powered by a 570-horsepower V10 engine and feature permanent four-wheel drive.

Race One is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. (local time) Friday, June 27, with Race Two scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28. Practice will take place Thursday, June 26, with qualifying Friday, June 27.

The two rounds at Watkins Glen are part of a busy weekend of action worldwide for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championship, which continues to reach new levels of success at every round in Europe, North America and Asia. The European Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo continues June 27-28 at Circuit Paul Ricard at Le Castellet, France, with a record grid of 28 cars.

2013 series champion Kevin Conway leads the Driver Classification with 47 points after the first four rounds of the North America championship, March 13-14 at Sebring International Raceway and May 3-4 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Conway, driving the No. 29 entry for Change Racing and representing Lamborghini Carolinas, has finished in the top four in all four rounds this season to forge a consistent path to the front of the championship.

Conway's closest rival for the championship, Andrew Palmer, will not compete at Watkins Glen after winning both rounds at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. 2013 World Final champion Palmer recently was named to Lamborghini's global Young Drivers Program and will focus on development of the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 Super Trofeo race car that will debut in the 2015 championship, returning to the 2014 Super Trofeo North America in the season-ending rounds in October at Petit Le Mans.

But Palmer's absence won't create an easy road to the top of the podium for Conway due to a high-profile new arrival to the championship for this event.

American Speed will participate as a celebrity guest driver in a Jota Corse entry representing Lamborghini Dallas. Speed was the most recent American to compete in Formula One, in 2006 and 2007. He also raced in the premier NASCAR Sprint Cup Series from 2008-13. He is leading the points in the Red Bull Global Rallycross championship this season for the Volkswagen Andretti team.

Speed, 31, from Manteca, Calif., will co-drive with Lee Davis at Watkins Glen. Speed's telemetry data will be available to Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America competitors, and he will share tips and techniques with drivers who seek to learn from his experience at the highest levels of motor racing.

There are also plenty of other challengers for the podium at The Glen.

John Farano is third in the championship with 40 points in the No. 63 Jota Corse entry representing Lamborghini Dallas. He recorded his third podium finish of the season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with a third-place finish in Round 4.

Kevin O'Connell is the leading driver in the Amateur class, fifth overall with 21 points. O'Connell finished fifth and sixth overall, respectively, in the two rounds at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the No. 9 Rick Ware Racing entry representing Lamborghini Houston.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo car is the ultimate single-make race car and the only four-wheel drive GT racer in the world. The 570-horsepower, V10 Gallardo LP 570-4 features impressive technology such as paddle shift E-gear transmission, Öhlins race shocks, Brembo brakes, a carbon fiber aerodynamic package that includes a rear wing with 10 adjustable positions, MTA data acquisition, air jacks, center wheel locks and more.

Lamborghini and Blancpain will provide world-class hospitality this weekend for clients and guests of Lamborghini dealers and of the Manufacture of Le Brassus from throughout the Northeast and New England. Guests also can participate in the IMSA Hot Lap Experience, high-speed rides around the Watkins Glen circuit in a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4.

The exciting new Huracán LP 610-4 also will be displayed throughout the weekend in the Lamborghini Village at the circuit.

The Asian Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championship resumes Aug. 30-31 at the Fuji Speedway in Oyama, Japan.
