Spencer Massey's hometown is near Fort Worth, Texas, but this weekend he will race in front of another hometown crowd at the Route 66 Nationals at Joliet, Ill.

Route 66 Raceway is near sponsor Schumacher Electric headquarters in Mt. Prospect, Ill., and Spencer and the Battery Extender Powered by Schumacher team are excited for a chance to entertain its employees.

"I'm excited to go to Chicago," Spencer said. "That's the home race for Battery Extender and Schumacher Electric. I'd love to go out there and do well for those folks and put them in the Winner's Circle if we can."

Spencer and the Battery Extender team have two event titles through 11 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events this season but the pressure is on for the Texas native to impress at Joliet. At the previous event in Epping, N.H., Spencer had a quicker dragster against opponent Richie Crampton, but Crampton left the starting line first and earned the holeshot win.

"There's always pressure, especially at the home race for Schumacher Electric. But not only that, this is as big as it gets for drag racing and coming off of a holeshot loss there's going to be extra pressure this weekend."

Massey already has a fairytale story from Route 66 Raceway after earning his first career Top Fuel win at the facility in 2009 against now-teammate Antron Brown.

"This race is always huge to me. It was the site of my first Top Fuel win and it was against Antron. It will always be one of the best races ever for me and I'd love to win there again."
