2014 NHRA: Chicago Could Be Turning Point For Arana's Season

In only his sophomore year, Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Adam Arana has continued to make progress during the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season and hopes to score his first win at the O'Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals, June 26-29, at Route 66 Raceway in Chicago, Ill.

After a productive weekend in Epping, N.H., the ProtectTheHarvest.com/MAVTV Buell is almost at the level it needs to be to become competitive every single week.

"I expect to have my tune-up right by this weekend," Arana said. "I know once I get my tune-up right, the motor will run even better.

"Hopefully, soon we will switch over to race oil, which gives us a little added horsepower as well. We can then combine that additional horsepower with better 60-foot and 330-foot times, and I should have a good solid qualifying position, setting up for a good elimination day."

The bike is close to being perfect, and the youngest Arana is prepared mentally for what Chicago may hold for him. That combination could pose a dangerous threat to the rest of the Pro Stock Motorcycle field this weekend.

"I feel much more comfortable on the bike this year," Arana said, "especially when we return to tracks I've raced at before. I have a better understanding of what to expect when I get up to the starting line for the first session of qualifying.

"I have the mentality to win; I just need the bike to be consistent. Once the bike is constant, I'll be able to switch my attention to smaller details and focus more on going rounds every week."

Arana will look to continue making progress this season when qualifying sessions take place at 4:30 and 7:15 p.m., Friday, and 4:15 and 7:15 p.m., Saturday. Eliminations begin at noon, Sunday. ESPN2 will carry all qualifying and elimination action, including live coverage of the final two rounds.
