Jack Mitchell Targeting Clean Sweep At Croft

Jack Mitchell and his Airwaves Racing backed Ginetta G40 head North hunting another clean sweep of results as the Ginetta Junior championship arrives at North Yorkshire’s Croft circuit this coming weekend (June 28/29).

Having already set an incredible benchmark taking 6 wins out of 8 races and securing 7 poles and 3 fastest laps along the way, many would expect the Kent teenager to be complacent ahead of this weekend’s two races – but the 16 year old has his feet firmly on the ground.

“Thruxton was a bit of a wake-up call for us to be honest. Having started every race on pole and with a 100% winning record up until that point - to then come away with just a sixth place finish from the weekend when I knew we had the pace in the car was devastating.”

“My confidence took a bit of knock after that, so we decided to get some testing in at Oulton Park and Croft ahead of us going racing there,” added Jack. “Testing went really well, and the Airwaves Ginetta was the fastest out on the track so I went to Oulton Park with high hopes.”

Mitchell soon showed he was back on top form at Cheshire’s stunning Oulton Park circuit securing pole position for both races. Despite this, Jack insists that another race win wasn’t necessarily a given and he was made to work for his top step glory with Kellet pushing him hard. “Both races were tough,” admits Jack. “With Kellet breathing down my neck, using the tow from my car to keep in touch with me, made it a great race to watch, and for me a great race to control from the front and I loved every minute of it!”

The two latest wins helped to cement Jack’s position at the top of the championship standings and he heads into this weekend’s round at Croft with a healthy 66 point lead. “Race two at Oulton Park proved that I can race under pressure and keep my head,” Jack points out. “Hopefully I can pull another strong performance out of the bag this weekend and stretch my lead in the championship even further.”

One thing’s for sure, the Ginetta junior star clearly hasn’t lost his appetite for collecting silverware and his focus is firmly set on delivering another strong performance his JHR squad to take them even closer to the 2014 championship title. “I tested at Croft and loved the circuit. Managing to get under the current lap record during testing was the icing on the cake and race day cannot come quick enough for me - bring it on.”

Jack’s JHR-run, Airwaves Racing liveried Ginetta G40 will be back in action at Croft this coming weekend as part of the TOCA support package to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. The Motorbase-run Airwaves Racing and Crabbie’s Racing squads will also be competing over the weekend with Sunday’s live race day coverage shown on ITV4, itv.com and also in HD from 11am.
