Kyle Gimple Confident as Compass360 Racing Returns to Watkins Glen

As the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge travels to upstate New York for the Continental Tire 150 at the Glen this weekend at Watkins Glen International, Kyle Gimple is confident of a strong outing in the No. 75 Children's Tumor Foundation/ HPD/Racing4research.org Honda Civic Si with Compass360 Racing. He shares the car with co-driver Ryan Eversley and the duo targets another run to the podium after having finished second at Watkins Glen last year.

The 2.5-hour race marks Round 6 of the 12 race championship and Gimple is hoping that this weekend marks a turnaround for the team that hasn’t seen quite the results they had been hoping for so far in 2014. A string of bad racing luck has Gimple searching for that first ST Class podium of the season.

Beyond last year’s result at the Glen, another boost of confidence comes from Gimple’s podium-earning result in GS class competition last month in a breakthrough drive at Lime Rock Park.

He and Eversley very nearly scored that first ST class podium of the year in the previous round at Kansas Speedway, but a battle on the final lap saw the No. 75 Honda Civic relinquish the third place spot in a fight to the finish and the team took fourth at the checkered. With some solid momentum heading into one of the most highly anticipated tracks on the 2014 schedule, Gimple is well-prepared for a big result.

“I love Watkins Glen – these Compass360 cars have been fast there basically every time,” said Gimple, who has several years of experience at the Glen including a fourth place finish while driving in the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Series in 2010. “We almost won it last year but the rain came at the end and we were on slicks and we stayed on slicks. It was the right decision. Ryan (Eversley) had the lead on the last lap and a GS car messed him up and that allowed Stevan McAleer to slip in and take the victory. But I feel like going to Watkins Glen we should be good. I also expect the Porsches to be good and the Mazdas as well since they’ve been dominating this year. But I think once we get to Watkins Glen, we can at least give them a run for their money.”

Gimple and Eversley currently sit 11th in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge championship and hope that Watkins Glen kicks off a string of positive results toward their championship goal.

It will be another quick weekend for the Compass360 Racing team with one practice scheduled for Thursday followed by another practice and a 15-minute qualifying session on Friday. The 2.5-hour Continental Tire 150 at the Glen will take place Saturday at 11:35 AM ET and will be shown live via video streaming on IMSA.com.
