Bastianini Tops Thursday Practice At Assen Antonelli 11th

Enea Bastianini played a starring role today during the opening day of the Dutch Grand Prix at the historic circuit of Assen: the Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3 youngster in fact ended the first day of practice with the fastest time, setting a very good 1’42”366 in the final stages of the afternoon session.

Bastianini improved by over 2 seconds his morning best lap time, 1’44”555, eventually finishing the day under the previous circuit record, two tenths of a second ahead of Australian Jack Miller.

His teammate, Niccolò Antonelli, was eleventh in the combined classification with a best lap time of 1’43”245: the 18-year-old Italian rider is confident ahead of tomorrow, when he will work primarily with the aim of improving the behaviour of his KTM under braking entering fast corners.

NICCOLO' ANTONELLI (11th - 1'43"245)
“I’m really pleased with today’s outcome: I have always maintained a good pace and without traffic I could get a better lap tie, more or less 0.3 seconds faster. We are still missing something; just little things but that can make a difference: the bike is a little bit nervous under braking at the entrance of the fastest corners, so tomorrow we will work to try to improve mainly on this area”.

ENEA BASTIANINI (1st - 1'42"366)
“I was not expecting to be the fastest, I'm delighted! Staying in the lead is a unique experience. In this morning session I rode using last year’s references, when I raced here with the MotoGP Rookies Cup, without getting very good lap times; in the afternoon instead I managed to change my references and consequently to better understand the track. In addition, I felt very comfortable with the bike, therefore I was able to set a very good lap time. Anyway, I don’t set myself big goals for this weekend: for me being in the top 5, or even in the top 10, is already a good result; everything else is a plus”.

“I’m very satisfied of this first day of practice: Bastianini arrived on a track that already knew and he’s living a very positive period , so everything is going well. However, we remain with our feet on the ground, because Enea is still very young and he has very little experience; anyway, he started the weekend in an excellent way. I’m also happy for Antonelli, who comes from a very positive Aragon test, thanks to which he’s regaining the feeling lost in this first part of the season. Niccolò could also get a slightly better lap time, so I’m confident also with regard to his performance ahead of tomorrow Qualifying. We look forward to the rest of the weekend with a lot of confidence”.
