Draco Racing Enjoy Productive Practice Day In Moscow

One hundred kilometers west of Moscow. There, just besides the M9 Motorway lies Moscow Raceway, the track that plays host to round 5 of the World Series by Renault season. On the Russian track designed by F1 architect Hermann Tilke Draco Racing made the most of Friday’s two 50 minutes Free Practice sessions to prepare their cars for Qualifying 1 and Race 1, scheduled for tomorrow at 10.50 AM and 2.30 PM respectively. In the morning session, hampered by a very dirty and dusty track, the team owned by Guto Negrao focused on trying different setup solutions in both qualifying and race trim, but without using any set of new tyres, so not to waste them on a track that didn’t grant enough grip.

Despite that, Pietro Fantin closed the session in P8 and Luca Ghiotto was 13th, proving that the team’s setup choices were right once again. The afternoon saw more useful setup work being carried out, and only a red flag waved with 5 minutes to go, right when both Pietro and Luca had fitted new rubber, prevented the Draco boys from posting some very quick times. Pietro ended up in P15 and Luca was 20th, placements that don’t reflect their real performance potential.

Simone Giglio - Team Manager
"It was a day of hard work, and we are not looking at laptimes at all as we know that they don't tell the truth, especially with that red flag at the end of FP2. The track was quite green and dusty today, and the track conditions improved a lot throughout the day, so the important thing was to try and understand what amount of grip the surface will offer tomorrow in qualifying first, and then in the race. We think we are working in the right direction, and both Fantin and Ghiotto helped us with very good and detailed feedback. Now we are going through a thorough data analysis, we are confident that tomorrow, when it really counts, we'll be more than ready".
