Learning Day For Ghiotto In Moscow Raceway

Free Practice day for Luca Ghiotto at Moscow Raceway, the track that is playing host to round five of the World Series by Renault championship. The Italian talent, lined-up by Draco Racing, made the most of the two 50-minute sessions held today to get familiar with the layout designed by Hermann Tilke, a track he knew from last year’s experience in the Eurocup F.Renault but that became much more challenging while having to tame the extreme performances of the F.Renault 3.5 car.

Under a cloudy sky and with temperatures in the 15°C range, Luca and the team focused on collecting as many data as possible to prepare the car for tomorrow’s Qualifying 1 and Race 1. Ghiotto completed an impressive 43 laps without making any mistake, giving full priority to stints in race trim and without really looking for performance alone. Due to that he closed FP1 in P14 and FP2 in P20, but in the second Free Practice session he could have been much quicker if it wasn’t for a red flag that was waved when he had just mounted new tyres. Unluckily, the session stoppage forced the Italian youngster to abort his best lap, and didn’t allow his final laptime to reflect his real performance potential. It was a small setback in an overall positive day, that leaves Luca upbeat for tomorrow’s effort.

Luca Ghiotto
“It was a day of hard work, that asked me to cope with different challenges: I had to get acquainted with a new engineer, and at the same time to learn the track nearly from scratch, as lines and braking points are very different compared to what I used to do with the little 2.0 car. Both in the morning and the afternoon we worked on refining our setup, without really focusing on laptimes. Despite that I had the potential for a quick lap on new rubber and I was very disappointed to see the red flag being waved right when I had fitted sticker tyres. It’s a pity, but I’m not worried. Tomorrow, when it really counts, we’ll be up there”.
