2014 Kentucky: Tayler Malsam NASCAR Truck Race Recap

In his second-career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) start at Kentucky Speedway, Tayler Malsam brought home a 13th-place finish in the No. 32 Outerwall Chevrolet after battling track position throughout the 150-lap race. Malsam's weekend got off to a good start as the 25-year-old was able to advance to the final round of knockout qualifying, ultimately starting the UNOH 225 in the 12th position. Following multiple cautions early in the race, Malsam quickly settled into the top 15. By Lap 25, Malsam ran in the 12th position, looking to utilize his car's speed and make up some track position.

Malsam remained in the 12th position until lap 50, when the first pit stops of the day began under green-flag conditions. The No. 32 Outerwall Chevrolet came to pit road on lap 51, with Malsam coming to the attention of his crew. By lap 60, after pit stops cycled through, Malsam was again in 12th. A caution on lap 61 bunched the field back together for a restart on lap 66. The 25-year-old was able to gain some positions on the initial start, climbing as high as 10th in the running order on lap 70 until eventually slipping to 11th on lap 80. A caution on lap 100 brought forth the final pit stop of the race for Malsam and the No. 32 Outerwall team.

Crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. let the 25-year-old know that they would be able to make it to the end of the race on fuel from this point forward. When the race resumed on lap 104, Malsam settled into the 12th position. The 25-year-old advanced up to 11th on lap 120, looking to break into the top 10 in the race's closing laps. The last caution of the race flew on lap 140, bringing the field together for a final 10-lap shootout. Malsam restarted in the 11th position, but fell two spots in the final laps, ultimately finishing 13th.

Tayler Malsam on his 13th-place finish:
"This was a tough night overall for the Outerwall team in Kentucky. Following practice in the morning, I felt like we had a really fast Silverado that was going to compete for the win. Unfortunately, we just weren't able to get the track position needed to get up to the top five. Overall, I'm really proud of how hard my Turner Scott Motorsports team worked all night long. I'm looking forward to Iowa in a couple of weeks and putting together another solid run."
