Doran Racing's Nissans Qualify In The Top 10 At The Glen

The Doran Racing-prepared Nissan 370Zs qualified just 0.050 of a second apart in IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge action Friday at Watkins Glen International. They'll accelerate from the eighth and ninth starting positions when the green flag waves on the 2-hour-and-30-minute race Saturday at 11:35 a.m. Eastern time.

Brad Jaeger of Charlottesville, Va., qualified the Lebanon, Ohio-based team's #14 Nissan NISMO 370Z RC in eighth place with a time of 2:02.376 for the prestigious 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course. Jaeger, who will drive the first portion of the race and then be relieved by his co-driver, B.J. Zacharias of Cincinnati, turned his fastest qualifying lap on his sixth and final lap of the session.

John Farano of Toronto will start from the inside of Row 5 after he set the ninth-fastest time in qualifications with the #41 Tower Events Nissan 370Z. His fastest lap of the session came on his fourth of seven laps. The qualifying time for Farano, who shares the driving duties for the #41 with another Toronto-based driver, David Empringham, was 2:02.426.

"We have a solid car for the race," said Jaeger Friday afternoon after qualifying. "Qualifying didn't go as well as I had hoped, but I had pretty bad track position throughout the session. I was passing slower cars every lap, and I wasn't able to put one clear lap together. But I'm glad we're in the top 10. It's perfect weather here this weekend and we're looking forward to a good race tomorrow."

Camaros took three of the top-five positions in the 25-car Grand Sport field, and the top four qualifiers broke the GS track record. There are 34 Street Tuner cars entered in the race too, for a total field of 59.

Doran Racing's Nissans were fast right off the transporter. Empringham topped the charts in the first practice session on Thursday afternoon with a 2:01.333, while the #14 was third with a 2:02.204.

“This car really suits this track,” Empringham told a series official afterwards. “It’s a combination of the car and Kevin Doran’s setup. I have a good feeling that this will be a good one for us.”

The #41 was seventh in the second practice session early Friday morning with a time of 2:01.487 while the #14 was right behind in eighth place with a 2:01.638.

Live video and audio coverage as well as live timing and scoring of the race is planned for imsa.com, while Fox Sports 1 will broadcast its coverage at 10 a.m. EDT on Sunday, July 6.
