Imola, Qualifying: Markus Pommer (Super Nova) Takes Another Pole Position

Markus Pommer (Super Nova) scored his third pole position of the year in qualifying for this weekend's Auto GP round at Imola. For the quick German it's also the third straight pole as he edged returning Euronova racer Kimiya Sato by four tenths of a second. The Japanese has seen his points advantage go down a bit again as the pole handed two more points to his opponent.

Virtuosi UK's Pal Varhaug took a narrow third for just 0.026s. The Norwegian, a former runner-up in the series, showed he's still in the leading pack by edging competitive Italians Kevin Giovesi (FMS) ed Andrea Roda (Virtuosi UK). Also in row 3 will be Tamas Pal Kiss (Zele Racing), who suffered from mechanical issues yesterday and had to switch engines while Michela Cerruti (Super Nova) and Christof von Grunigen (Zele Racing) will line-up in row 4. The top-10 was completed by Vittorio Ghirelli (FMS) and Francesco Dracone (Super Nova). Ghirelli also had engine woes that cost him a lack of 10 km/h in terms of straight line speed.

The Q1 cut left out Michele La Rosa (MLR71 by Euronova), Giuseppe Cipriani (Ibiza Racing) and Salvatore De Plano (Euornova). Race 1 will take place this afternoon at 15:15 on a 20-lap distance. The 17-lap long Race 2 will go underway Sunday. Both races will be televised live by Eurosport.
