Burton Racing Ready For Continental Tire 150 At The Glen

Both Burton Racing BMW machines are set for Saturday’s Continental Tire 150 at the Glen after a picturesque mid-morning qualifying session on Friday.

Greg Strelzoff put the No. 22 Gold Eagle BMW 128i that he shares with co-driver Connor Bloum in 24th position for the sixth round of the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge while the No. 23 BMW Automotive Chemicals/Excelda BMW 128i of Mike LaMarra and Terry Borcheller will start from the rear of the 60-car field after an engine change.

As the first combined IMSA event featuring both the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge and TUDOR United SportsCar Championship since Sebring, it was a busy weekend leading up to the qualifying session for the Burton Racing crew. Both BMW machines were running well through the traffic in the two short 45-minute practice sessions ahead of qualifying.

Unfortunately, debris picked up during one of those practice sessions necessitated an engine change on the No. 23 to be performed by the crew between qualifications and the race, which per IMSA regulations, sees the No. 23 move to the back of the field.

“The car actually felt really good as far as the chassis and the balance and everything, the team has worked really hard on that and done a great job,” said LaMarra after qualifications. “And during qualifications I got the chance to really just work on practicing my laps around the track and figure out how to get that one really good lap and keep repeating it, so that was nice. The team will go to work tonight and we are looking forward to a great race tomorrow!”

Both Burton Racing machines look to make some big moves in Saturday’s two-hour and thirty minute race, confident in the strength and performance of their brother Burton Racing BMW 128i machines.

“It felt great out there,” said a pleased Strelzoff after laying his fastest qualifying lap down on his very last time around the circuit. “The car feels really good, the guys have done such a great job getting it ready for this weekend. Unfortunately I misjudged the traffic a little bit during qualifying and couldn’t quite piece together the lap I wanted or knew the car was capable of, but I am always better in the race anyway. I am really looking forward to the race tomorrow and am ready to make some big moves.”

The green flag for the Continental Tire 150 at the Glen will fly Saturday at 11:35 AM (ET) and will be streamed LIVE on imsa.com. The race will also be aired on FOX Sports 1 on July 6th at 10:00 AM (ET).
