Gimple, who will open the two and a half-hour race behind the wheel before turning the car over to co-driver Ryan Eversley, bolted to the top of the sheets with his first flying lap.

A return to the stripe after another fast flyer on the 3.4-mile circuit delivered an even faster lap with a 2:08.173-second time that ended the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge (CTSC) session as the third fastest.

“Our car has been handling really well since we unloaded. We know that from last year coming in here to the Glen, our car is always good,” said Gimple, who took fourth in Mustang Challenge competition at the track before moving to IMSA. “Third is very solid. We knew that the MX-5 guys and the Porsches would be strong, and they are the only two cars ahead of us so it is a good start, the best we’ve had all year. A lot of guys stayed out the whole session, but we saved our tires as much as we could. We’ll see how that plays into the race.”
