Ralliart Italy Rally Poland Day Three

Italian driver Max Rendina started Day Three of Rally Poland carefully in his Ralliart Italy-run Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X. One minute behind then FIA WRC 2 Championship Group N Cup leader Juan Carlos Alonso and 32 seconds ahead of Ramon Torres who was in third, he saw little value in taking risks that could put him out of the running altogether. He focused on keeping a steady pace and safely navigating the tough Polish stages.

Torres dropped out of the running on the road section to SS11, the opening test of the day, leaving Rendina able to cut a steady path through the first loop of stages unchallenged. The highlight of a strong morning was winning SS13 and SS14 before heading back to midday service. The afternoon presented an entirely new test. As it started to rain, it became harder for every driver who was intent on surviving the increasingly muddy stages. Intent only on getting to the finish, Rendina suddenly found himself promoted into the lead on SS19 when rival Alonso retired with a broken radiator.

Heading into the final day at the top of the leaderboard for the fourth time so far this season - of only six events started - Rendina is now determined to keep his cool and take home as many Group N Cup points as possible: “In some ways I’m in a good position, because I’m now leading the Group N Cup field – which is great. However, I also have everything to lose now! My co-driver Mario and I have a clear strategy for the final day of Rally Poland – stay calm and get to the end. I hope to see the Polish fans there!”

Ralliart Italy Team Manager Bruno De Pianto is pleased with Rendina’s focused strategy over the weekend: “Max wasn’t phased by those around him. He drove his own rally and so far so good, because that’s left him at the top of the Group N Cup leaderboard. A strong result here would put him in a very good position for the Group N Cup title. Of course the best we could hope for is his fourth win of the season. That’s a lot to ask in conditions completely unknown to him and Mario, but I hope they might just able to pull it off!”
