WeatherTech Racing on Pole in GTD at The Glen

WeatherTech Racing will start from the pole in GTD for tomorrow's running of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen International Raceway. The pole position is the first for a Porsche in the GTD class in the new TUDOR Championship.

Leh Keen (Charleston, S.C.) had the wheel of the No. 22 WeatherTech Racing Porsche for the 15-minute qualifying session this afternoon. Keen, who has had a couple of front row starting positions this year, broke through for the pole with a lap of 1:48.831. The time was put in on his third circuit of the qualifying session. Teammates Cooper MacNeil (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Philipp Frommenwiler (Kreuzlingen, Switzerland) have also turned fast laps this weekend giving the trio of drivers a lot of confidence going into tomorrow's six hour race at the 3.7 mile, 14-turn undulating road course located in the picturesque Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.

"Those were some awesome laps," Keen said. "I just love this track. The WeatherTech Porsche was unbelievably good right off of the trailer today and yesterday. The last time that Alex was here was five years ago with a DP car. We were able to translate that set-up to this car. We carried the momentum of being the fastest in practice yesterday forward to qualifying. I am really happy to turn a 48. I didn't think we could go that quick. But, the car is great and driving really well around here. It is great to get the pole after qualifying second a couple of times this year."

MacNeil likes his first tour of the Watkins Glen circuit.

"[This is] my first time and it is really going well so far," MacNeil said. "Hats off to the Alex Job crew, they really have given us a great car this week. Leh got the pole with a really fast time. It looks like it is our race to lose. We are starting at the front and we will try to keep it there the whole time tomorrow. We are just two points back in the championship, so it would be nice to get a win in this first stretch of races following Le Mans. We have been first or second in every practice session, so hopefully we can keep that speed and consistency going for the race tomorrow."

Frommenwiler also likes the fast Glen layout.

"It is an amazing track," Frommenwiler said. "Leh told me a lot about this circuit. It is an amazing place. The track is really fast. Leh did a great job to get the pole. The team has been doing a great job with car all week as we have been at the top of the time sheets. We are happy to start at the front. The race is six hours long, getting the pole is good for team spirit heading into a long day tomorrow. I turned some good laps today and I am looking forward to racing here on Sunday."

Alex Job, team owner, has the fastest car in GTD.

"We've had a great couple of days in practice," Job said. "We have been one or two on the time sheet every session and Leh did a great job to put the WeatherTech Racing Porsche on pole. Cooper and Philipp have gotten up to speed very quickly for having never seen this fast track before. I like our chances in the race tomorrow."

The TUDOR Championship Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen will be televised live on Fox Sports 1 starting at 11 a.m. ET, Sunday, June 29.
