Close, But Not Enough, As Justin Wilson Takes 10th In Houston

After starting the race from seventh on the grid for Saturday’s Houston Grand Prix, Justin Wilson managed to drive through widely variable weather conditions and avoid any issues in a wild race, moving to prime position as he led the race with just minutes to go.

Alas, the same pit strategy that saw Wilson not stop after the 28th lap - in a race that opened under wet conditions and closed under dry - and lead 15 laps of the timed event, ended up not paying full dividends as the Dale Coyne Racing driver had to pit for a splash of fuel with the No. 19 Boy Scouts of America Honda/Dallara in the waning moments of the Verizon IndyCar Series race.

Wilson was credited with a 10th place finish, with his Dale Coyne Racing teammate Carlos Huertas coming home with his first-ever IndyCar victory as the team won for the first time since Wilson won at Texas in 2012.

"That was kind of a tough day,” said Wilson. “We kept at it and were leading there for a while but we needed one more caution to make it to the end and it didn't come. That is just the way it goes. We will keep working on it and try to get into that position tomorrow. I am very pleased for the team and it is great for Carlos to get his first IndyCar win and I think that was fantastic. I am happy for everyone and hopefully we can have a decent shot at it tomorrow."

Sunday’s second leg of the Houston double-header will go green at 3:00 PM ET, with NBCSN bringing live broadcast coverage of the race and IndyCar Radio also providing coverage.
