Performance Tech Starts Sixth In Sahlen's Six

Performance Tech Motorsports driver, David Ostella, qualified the No. 38 Dash Neighborhood/Phillips 66 Prototype Challenge car in the sixth position for the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen International.

With a lap time of 1:41.897 Ostella landed the PC car above more seasoned drivers such as former IndyCar star Bruno Junqueira and 2013 Le Mans P2 class winner Martin Plowman during the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship qualifying.

Ostella was 1.334 seconds off the pole sitter, CORE Autosport's Colin Braun, time of 1:40.562. With the competition running tight, Ostella took every second of the 15-minute session to earn his starting spot. His qualifying lap was also his final lap of the period.

Ostella readily admits that qualifying is not a part of his racing repertoire but nonetheless is building confidence in his ability to do so.

"The car felt really good," said Ostella. "I'm happy with the setup. We were struggling a little bit earlier today through the practice sessions just to get the car spot on for that qualifying session.

"For me qualifying wasn't always the easiest thing, so just getting the confidence and the momentum out there on those fresh Continental tires to lay down those quick laps was important to compete with guys like Colin (Braun) and Renger (van der Zande). I'm glad I'm racing against them, it's great experience and it should lead to a great race."

Performance Tech Team Principal Brent O'Neill spent the weekend building his Prototype Lites drivers' cohesiveness and now is shifting his focus to Ostella and newcomer Mike Hedlund. He's hoping the process leads to a PC podium.

"I think David (Ostella) did an awesome job," O'Neill said. "And I think we've got a great car for the race. We're going to get Mike (Hedlund) some time in the car in the morning to get him settled in the car. He'll start the race. We've just got to keep the car on the track."

Round 7 of the United SportsCar Championship begins tomorrow at 11:10 a.m. (ET) Sunday, June 28. Broadcast begins at 11 a.m. on FOX Sports 1. Fans can also follow along on scoring.imsa.com for live timing and scoring.
