2014 Houston (Race 2): IndyCar Race Results - Pagenaud, Honda Win!

By Mike Sulka

In hot clear conditions, Schmidt Peterson IndyCar driver Simon Pagenaud and his No. 77 Honda has won the Shell and Pennzoil GP of Houston at the NRG Park Stadium Circuit. For Pagenaud, it is his second win and second podium of the 2014 IndyCar season, and fourth IndyCar career triumph. Pagenaud's last win came at the 2014 Indianapolis Grand Prix.

Finishing second was Mikhail Aleshin and his No. 7 Honda. For Aleshin, it is his first podium of the 2014 IndyCar season, and first podium of his IndyCar career. He has raced IndyCars 10 times. Aleshin's finish completed the one-two finish for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

In the thrilling battle for third, Jack Hawksworth and his No. 98 Honda would prevail to claim his first career IndyCar podium.

Behind, Charlie Kimball and his No. 83 Chevrolet would finish fourth followed by Sebastien Bourdais and his No. 11 Chevrolet to round out the top five.

Ryan Hunter-Reay and his No. 28 Honda started 21st, had a great day while passing car after car to move up and finish sixth.

In seventh, Juan Pablo Montoya and his No. 2 Team Penske Chevrolet fought hard all day, but persisted on trying to pass on the outside to his detriment.

Ryan Briscoe, Marco Andretti and Tony Kanaan rounded out the top-ten finishers.

On lap 48, Helio Castroneves and his No. 3 Pennzoil Team Penske Chevrolet and Sebastien Bourdais and his No. 11 Chevrolet were fighting for podium positions when Castroneves chopped off Bourdais putting the Brazilians car in the wall and damaging the front wing of Bourdais.

Will Power and his No. 12 Team Penske Chevrolet would lose a sure third place with two laps to go as his right rear suspension broke heading to the finish line.

Next up for the IndyCar series will be the annual visit to Pocono for the Pocono IndyCar 500 next weekend.
