Andy Meyrick Drives M-Sport Bentley To Second Victory

Cestrian sportscar racer Andy Meyrick expertly pilots the Bentley Continental GT3 to the front of the third race of the Blancpain Endurance Series before the car takes a popular victory, the second in succession for Andy and teammates Guy Smith and Steven Kane. The win means that Andy has now won two of the three completed races in the 2014 championship, and now sits atop the drivers’ standings.

Andy inherited the car from Guy Smith just over an hour in to the race, with Guy having pitted the car from an effective 2nd place. An extremely fast pit stop by the M-Sport Bentley pit crew meant that Andy rejoined in the same position, and he immediately set about catching the #98 McLaren of Gregoir Demoustier. Closing in at over a second per lap, by the middle of his stint Andy was positioned directly behind the McLaren, and was able to make a bold move up the inside of the final corner to snatch the lead. He then continued to employ the superior grip of the Bentley to build a lead of several seconds, which would prove vital at the pit stop where Andy handed the car to Steven Kane. A problem with the front left wheel cost five seconds, but Andy’s progress had been enough to allow Steven to exit the pits just ahead of the #98 McLaren. From there, Kane was able to hold the lead for the duration of his stint to cross the line just 1.1 seconds ahead for the team’s second win in a row.

Speaking after receiving his winner’s trophy, Andy comments:
“Our team was so strong today. We were hopeful we’d have good pace, and once we realised how well our tyres were lasting on the famously tough surface here we knew we could fight for the victory. It wasn’t easy though, and we had to give it everything, but the Continental GT3 responds to being pushed hard. I was really pleased with my stint and even though I was on used tyres the grip lasted well, which meant I could build a small lead after I’d had a great fight with the McLaren to get to the front. All credit to the team today – the car was fantastic and I can’t wait for the 24 hour race at Spa.”

The fourth and next round of the Blancpain Endurance Series is the headline event of the year, the Total 24 Hours of Spa in Belgium. Andy will once again be racing the #7 Continental GT3 with Guy Smith and Steven Kane, looking to extend their lead at the top of the championship. Before then, Andy will combine an intensive programme of training with a test day at Spa on Wednesday 2nd July. Andy also resumes his driving responsibilities with DeltaWing in North America, racing at the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Ontario.
